I raised Oakview 2+2 back in my experimental days, I guess. I had a Dollar II cow out of a Lazy D Ultimate Type dam, bred her to my herd bull, GR CopTop Trampass, a CSF Mainetainer X Highfield Una 3rd bull and got a heifer calf. I had always been intrigued by the muscle shape of the Leaer Plus bull, so I bred this female, who had a lot of Maine in her, to Leader Plus. I bred the resiulting Leader Plus female to Remember Me, a bull that had some interesing Maine and Irish genetics. The resulting bull calf was 2+2 who is a 7/8 blood. 2+2 was born unassisted, and was very moderate in frame size. I used a bull called Jam's Uh-Huh back then and had a bull calf sired by him born within a day or two of 2+2. They were like Mutt and Jeff. The Jam's Uh-Huh calves were the fasting growing I have ever had. In fact, if somebody else had raised them and told me how fast they grew, I wouldn't have believed them. Anyway, the two calves couldn't have been further apart in type. 2+2 was very muscular throughout his body. I have a calfhood photo that shows that. If I get time, I'll post it. Anyway, I had several chances to sell 2+2 to traders, but felt if they got him I would never hear of him again. Dean Fieser decided he wanted him, though I warned Dean that he may never get big enough to breed his cows. Dean took him anyway and has much of his blood in his herd. We visited Dean last spring and he's using at least 5 sons or grandsons and they are impressive. Tony Shultz and I brought 2+2 back to Iowa three or four years ago and Tony used him until he died this spring. He has sold several excellent steer and heifer calves out of 2+2 and retained 2 sons for his own use. The 2+2 calves have real muscle where many Shorthorns don't even think of having muscle. They have lots of top and lower quarter with very good fronts. They are very moderate in frame size. If I was raising steers, he would be the bull I would use. Over the past few years, I have reduced the size of my cow herd and really just focus on the type of cattle and genetics I like. I really enjoyed using different genetics in the past, but I guess those days are over now. I haven't used 2+2 or another fairly popular bull I raised, Trump Card, very much because I like cattle with a little more growth. This is all just my opinion of the two bulls.
