Ground hogs

Spring is really here! This morning I shot 2 woodchucks from the back porch and could of got 1 more if the baby calves had'nt chased them out of the pasture. We have a creek running through the pastures and have been plagued by these varmits for years. My .17 does a good job on them but scares the hell out of the neighbor lady. LOL <cowboy>

I hate them dang things with a passion. I chased one down in the woods the other day and beat it with a stick. The old lady was laughing her a$$ off. They are tough little thing. Conibear traps do a terrific job.

On my one acre "farm" I am doing very well at raising ground hogs and gopher like critters Any suggestions on what to do about them- mind you this is in the addition we live in, so I don't think clubbing or shooting them will set well with the neighbors! LOL.

You could always do what my grandpa did.

Find the most comfortable lawn chair you got, a cold beverage, and your favorite gun then go to town on em.

Boy how I wish someone could do that for me, but like I said- not sure if ammo is kosher in my 'hood Would hate to get the neighbors mad at me in an attempt to get rid of one pain in my butt, if you know what I mean. They are ALL over! Went from one side last year to the back portion. What can I do, honestly? Ammo aside?

Get a live trap and when you catch one toss it in the stock tank for awhile.

Golden Malrin fly bait in their hole will work.  I also read where someone recommended dumping gas and water in their hole, then make a fuse with diesel fuel.  I've been told there will be a several small explosions and no more ground hogs.  I haven't had the nerve to try this, though.  Last night I went out to do chores about 7:30 and there was a skunk eating cat food right by the garage.  Tonight's job is to fix that problem.

I had problems with them in my barn last year and I mixed some golden malrin in some feed and left it out for a few nights and it took care of them pretty quick.  I also had a buddy with a problem with racoons and he mixed the golden malrin with coke and they only made it feet from where he baited them.

Can somebody tell me what the golden marlin fly bait is. The only way I know to get rid of them is with a gun.

Tasty little devils.  Had one in the freezer that we cooked to celebrate Groundhog Day.  Wife would have nothing to do with it.  Says that we (I) have sunk to new lows eating rodents.  Actually taste pretty good -alot like rabbit.  They eat nothing but the best forages.

You can get the golden malrin at tractor supplies and most other feed stores.  It comes in a can and is a blue granule.  I haven't had much luck with it getting rid of flies but it works wonders on ground hogs, possums, and racoons.  I hear that if a dog or cat eats it the will throw it back up.  But I guess the ground hogs and such can't and it takes them out pretty quick.

I would love to do that, but won't they die close to my own house and smell funny? If I was on the farm and having this problem. I wouldn't care out there, but I sure don't want a groundhog dieing on the neighbors driveway!

My dad likes to run hose from truck exhaust into the hole filling dirt in around it and letting the truck run for a while. Says they don't come back out and you don't have to worry about poisoning the neighbors dogs or cats.

Hey KCK what you need to do is go to your local gun shop and get some .22 CB caps. Its a 22 short but with no powder, the bullet is powered by the primer. Its extremely quite and the hogs will runn back to there hole and die. Instant burial. Also works great on cats, when we lived in town the cat ladie had 40 cats, needless to say when we moved she had 2.

Well, I guess I left out the part about me not doing the whole gun thing. I am the most accident prone person, so I don't need anything else that might complicate things! LOL. I am not even allowed to use a knife to cut much anymore after an accident requiring stitches. So, I am going to find a safer for me alternative! Or, maybe I could just farm them? We did find some stuff at Lowes last year, but can't remember what it is. Guess I will have to wonder the store for an hour or so (clapping)
PS- don't google groundhog control, either. Their methods are all how to "deter them to other locations!"

I know for a fact that fly bait and coke works wonders on coons! If you decide to go ahead and raise groundhogs, maybe let the chokecherries grow as well, then you can tell everyone that you farm hogs and fruit! (lol)
