I need help! I don't know what to do about my steers hair! I rinse and blow him everyday, and bathe him once a week but his hair is not growing! I have put products in, shampoo, conditioner and nothing is working! I don't know what to do! he lives outside with a run-in shed. we cant afford a barn.

Brushing with a rice root brush will help stimulate hair growth, start on the right side of the animal and brush up and forward at a 45% angle until your arm feels like it will fall off, now go to the left side and use your right arm and do the same thing. Now that your right arm is about to fall off go back to the right side and use your left arm again. You could try melatonin it may help, then there is always genetics, some grow hair others are a challenge the whole time. Where are you located and what is his breeding?

Well it should be cool enough to grow hair, might be genetics in play. What is his breeding? Try putting him on melatonin, you can use over the counter 3mg tablets give him 33 of them a day, or buy one of the supplements with it in it.

The most important thing is what are you feeding him? If you're feeding him a ration that's high in energy then that will make it hard for him to grow hair. No matter what time of year it is. A hot ration will cause one to shed hair because of it's high internal temperature from the energy in the feed.

Do you have a mister fan? we don’t use coolers but can get some pretty awesome hair going this way. You can probably modify it some to fit your needs and still get a result
Bring them in first thing in the morning, rinse them and brush until they are dry with a rice root brush. Tie them under fans (can you use your shed??) in the evening, rinse them until they are COOL (skin is cool to the touch) and turn them out. Don’t turn out before dark.
Please note that excessive shampoos and hair care products can actually hinder the hair growth, as oils make them hot and shampoos can strip hair oils and make it dry and brittle.
Idk what Idaho weather is like, but we are not rinsing calves in this weather

He gets straight rolled oats and barley. as much as he wants.

Yeah... I cant really rinse him because we have a half a foot of snow rn! lol but I will definetly get some fans for when it warms up! thanks!
