Hi, I am new. This is my first year showing a steer. I need some advice. My steer has started to lose hair (attached photo). I dewormed him in January and did a pour on treatment for mites because he lost hair (in December) in big patches. He has grown all his hair back and was looking great but he is slowly losing hair kinda all over his body no specific areas. I have been told it might be seasonal shedding but im worried it might be something else. He still has a large appetite and everything else is going great. Any advice? He has a smaller steer as a companion and he is not showing any signs or losing hair so i dont think it’s contagious. Thanks for the help.

Do you have him on a daily hair routine, (rinsing combing, blowing out), he does look like he has quite a bit of flaky skin. I do not think it is normal hair loss, it looks more like rain rot or some other skin issue. I would try treating him with a good vinegar rinse, and then use some Shapley's M-T-G on him per their directions. I would also apply bag-balm to the areas most affected to help the skin heal and restart hair growth. After you get him healed up and the hair growing I would recommend working his hair daily and making sure he is completely dry each time.
