Hauling?

What all do you guys do for like safety and stuff when you haul long distances?  I just kinda worry cause - for example - My friend had this AWESOME angus heifer he got from an uncle out of montana and she would have wiped EVERY show except that she got microplastmosa(something like that - I dont remember the exact name) coming from montana and she usually had a swollen hock in the back and in got really bad standing at shows so judges questioned her soundness and unfortunately they took a big loss on what they were aiming her for but she is bred to the 2005 denver champion (hes an angus) for a heifer with sexed semen and of course they are excited but still.

We usually try and keep them in an area of the trailer that is big enough for them to turn around or lay down, but no bigger so they can get to running around. As far as the floor, we either put down sand, or straws, or if we have problems with the floor being slick we will lay down a good layer of sand and put some straw on top of it. Also a good idea to keep a little hay for um to eat if they get hungry.  (pop)

Oh ya does everyone trailer loose, tied tight, tied loose? It seems like everytime I pick up a calf they tell me I should do it a diffrent way!

I've done it both ways.  I like loose, unless the animals are different sizes & sexes.

When hauling to a show we tie them low and loose, and bed the trailer in a thick layer of straw.

We try to put down about 4-6 inches of wood chips on tieing depends on number usually let loose if can put 2 or less to a compartment tie down some with more #'s and tie up if a full trailer load usually going long distance never seems to be a full trailer and if they are able to lay down we wil put out a little hay then stop and water when have to stop for fuel
