Since we are talking about spring breeding I'll throw this out.
I have had 5 units of Heat Seeker in the tank for forever, never really knew what he works on or where to use him, anyone that used him successfully want to suggest a type of cow to use him on.  Thanks

He'll work on a wide variety of bloodlines....just keep the cow moderate to small with some rib and average, to average plus power.  Some of the favorites over past years have been.....Meyers, Flush's, Who's, Foreplays, Paybacks, Cornhuskers.....and I know I'm forgetting several.  Heat Seeker females out of Angus dams are really nice....BUT, you'll rarely get enough power out of an Angus cow to make a bull.  

Promoted two Heat Seeker bulls out of Angus cows.....Fired Up and Thrill Seeker....and both would sire some really nice females, but the steers just rarely had enough quarter, and from what I"ve seen out of several other Angus dam matings and club calf bulls...this seems to hold pretty true.

From what I've seen, heatseeker can make your best cow throw you your worst calf.  But, he can make one of your common cows throw a barnburner.  If you can find what cows he works on, you'll have a hard time raising better ones than he throws.  But, if its the wrong cow, you won't have much.  That being said, I like the things heatseeker can do when mated right.  The steer in my avatar is a Heatseeker x 6651(stockman 365).  It's probably the most consistant mating in the club calf business.

Great Info Mr. Hook. I flushed him to a kadabara x maine break female.(#369868 ) Last year's calf out of Who Da Man was super stout, so we were thinking this one should be even stouter.

I saw a Lowline on a Heatseeker cow, and it worked out really well.  Lots of hair, bone, zipper front.  A big time judge owned the calf for a while.

I guess if anyone knows how to use him Brad would. But we use him on a very large, 8 frame, 1800 lb, purebred Simmental cow, pictured below. The next pic is her $10,000 No Bull Sale Heat Seeker heifer, the next two is that heifers first calf, a Pale Face that sold for in Brad's $7250 Pasture to Purple sale. She has produced other high priced calves as well.  I'll put some more in the next post.

These two heifers are younger versions of the same mating and although its not a good pic of the steer, he beat almost every steer in the state at one time or another including the eventual state champion on more than one occasion. So I like Heat Seeker on purebred Simmentals and Scott Sandeen and the Drakes have had success that way as well.

We have a HEATSEEKER/MEYERS BLACKTOP 3 year old cow that produced a 4000.00 steer first go. Out of Jake's Proud Jazz no doubt. Bred her to Tinman,but she didn't stick second go around.It was geeting late in breeding season and she will calve a MAXIMUS in mid to late may. This gal milks like a holstein,and we have had lots of chances to sell her.Although just as scrapped for finances as anyone else,I asked Carrie[better half] to have me euthanized,instead of selling her while I'm alive. This is to support the post about HEATSEEKER,crossed on good Simmy's. The Von Forrel's of Wheatland Wyoming had a hell of a steer[red] out of him and a really good Red Angus cow about 5  years ago. After all HE did sire HEATWAVE.

I'll have to agree about the PB simm deal also.  We used HS 10 years ago on a group of PB simm cows, no steers, but a bunch of good replacement heifers.  Still have 4 of those cows in the herd.  They milk a lot better than a majority of the HS x clubby dam that I have seen.

I used him one time on a better then average Gelbvieh Cow and got some pretty good calves.  We can show 50% Gelbvieh against PB here in Ohio so those calves did pretty well.  I still have one of them and some granddaughters.  My donor cow is a big bodied, sound clean fronted girl.  I am sure she is over 1800 lbs not so much tall as just a lot of capacity and meat.  The only issue I had with the bull is the birth weights can be high and the milking ability in some is not so good.  But when you get a good one she is a keeper.

Does anyone know the gestation for Heatseeker? Are his calves early? Late? I have a cow breed to him that is a couple days over. When should I start being concerned??
