My HW heifer last year calved twins. She had them on her own and mothered both calves for a good 2 months before we weaned one off.. Has made a good cow so far. Only thing is the calves were out of a easy calving Angus bull. Might not be so lucky with a higher birth weight bull.

We've had good luck w/ our Cherry Bomb (HeatWave son) heifers & calving. MLK32 just had one out of hers & she said it was up bouncing.
PS- they've also been clean

Red How do you like Cherry Bombs calves due you think he would work on angus cows???

I loved 2 of mine out of the same cow. didn't have as good of luck on others. Not sure about him on angus. He is a THC.

Calved my first HW heifer last week. All seems just fine at this point. She is out of a Lifeline x Meyer cow and had a bull by OCC Missing Link. He came about 70 lbs unassisted and got up and nursed. Matter of fact other than a navel dip, scour bolus, and eartag, I've yet to touch either the calf or the HW heifer. She seems to be milking on par with the average heifer around here and she has one of the best OCC sired calves that we have had out of 20 plus the last few years. I kept 3 HW's last year, so next year will be a better test, but I think if they are out of good cows and not too fat, they can't be that much different than all these other clubby sired females. IMHO
