I am curious about everyone's opinion on keeping heifers in  a cool room.  We bought 2 feeder heifers that we are going to show this year and keep for breeding.  I have heard some opinions that cool rooms can make it hard to get heifers bred when it comes time to breed them.  We are debating between building a cool room or just using fans and misters.  What are your thoughts?

We have always put heifers in the cooler and never had any problems. Now that being said we never would crank it down below 55 or 60 degrees when we had heifers in there and we always seemed to get darn good hair on them.

Agree with Eberth, we keep ours at 60 and they are in there 16 hours a day in the summer months.

Ours have always been in the cooling room next to the steers. Temp stays steady at about 58 degrees. Never had a problem breeding either.

When I used to have heifers in a cooler I usually had no problems.  I did have a problem of a heifer throwing two heats per cycle.  I asked my college professor about it and he said that this was because of the cooler.  He also said that the second showing of heat was the one that I needed to breed on.

I think the reason peopel think they have problems is just because they are always in the dark and they cant see them come into heat.
