Anyone want to take at stab at this I am kind of scratching my head.

Last WEd. we put in CIDR"s and gave GNRH. We pulled them on Wed. and gave Lute. I usually time AI with good success. Of the 5 we had set up only one responded. The other 4 showed no signs of heat or cycle at all. What did I do wrong? Would it hurt then to try again this coming week the same thing? All the cows are at least 60 days beyond calving date.

My guess is they have not cycled on their own yet.    You can't make a cow have a heat if she is not cycling.

They may still  come in.  I usually try to pull CiDR's on Wed. too, and it is not all unusual for me to have cows come in to standing heat on Sunday.  With my last group I had one that did not come in until Sunday afternoon, and I bred her Monday morning.  If you go TAI then you would probably have bred them tonight (72 hours) with GnRH.

I usually give 6.5 cc of lute as well, instead of the usual 5cc.

I'd give them at least through Monday before I

We are having a similiar situation. Call the day of the lute day zero (0) and on day 11 give another shot of lute and you should have heats in 48-72 hours.

Our vet tells us to give 5 cc of lut on the 6th day and pull the cidr on the 7th. Does anyone else do it like this?

Just breed them.  We have done this same protocall for 4 or 5 years now and we set them all up to breed at 60 days or later and usually in a group of 10 we only have anywhere from 2-7 show heat and we breed them all.  We always are at 68-70% first service.  It made me nervous the first few times but you will be surprised how many will stick that show nothing.

Breed them unless its super expensive semen. We had two that we were going to set up on shots and showed absolutely no signs of a heat of any kind and when the vet felt up in there, the one heifer and two other cows had follicles on the left ovary and lots of mucus, it just hadnt discharged yet. So we got them on natural heats which was awesome!!!! We bred three and only had to do shots and CIDRs on the other three. Turned out to be a great day.

Had the same problem, we used estrumate though.  Set up six wed to wed, had 3 come in on Sat night, the other three nothing.  We were going to put embryo's in any opinions if we should put embryos in the ones that showed nothing.  We usually have really good luck!  This is the first time that we didn't hit at least 85%  Can the vet feel if she has a good cl?

Thanks
Eric

Shawn I would talk to a reproduction expert and see what they recomend. I would think along the lines of another shot of lute or like drug X days after the last shot of lute. The question that I have is how many days after the first shot would be the optimum time frame.

Usually the vet who is implanting the embryos will palpate all the recips before they are implanted, and make sure they have proper CL. Our vet also has a portable ultrasound which really helps in some situations. We have an occasional cow that does not respond properly and she is rejected and I have turned right around and set them up again, and they have been fine to put an embryo in on the second round.  If I am wanting to implant 10 embryos, I will set up 12-13 recips, just in case. Sometimes all of them are good, other times, one or two are not.

Also been there  and done that, so this year we tried a whole different protocol that we developed after some research over the winter. 14 days before we planned on putting cidrs in  gave them 5cc lute. Then went with the 5 day protocol developed by Select Sires. The results were amazing every one was in roaring heat 72 hrs after we pulled cidrs. You will have 2 extra shots of lute but in our operation getting them bred first time through is our savings. You could say we synched the synchronization. I'm sure it would work with the traditional 7 day protocol.
