Help with our feed formula please

Here's a picture of our feed formula. What could we change to help put some fat cover on our heifers and cows? Or is it a good all around ration just leave it how it is. We figure if we could up the fat% we could always add fiber such as beet pulp, depth charge to hold them if they start to get too much condition on them.

I am not an expert, but I will share what i see and have been taught when reading rations. You are feeding 534 Kcal. Which equates to 53 mcal. To me thatch really low for not having any hay in the diet. My grower diet without hay is 61 mcal. I feed hay free choice. I dont get caught up with fat%. I focus on the energy.

I would ask them to increase energy. I would guess they will increase corn and decrease soy hulls, but Im not an expert. Also. Corn Gluten is usually fed with a complete balancer around here. Without a balancer,some of the nutrients may be unavailable to your cattle.

So tell them we want to up the energy. Ask them to lessen the soy hulls and increase corn? That's gonna get us where the ration works better for us?

You need to increase energy. How they get there is going to be up to them. Having a professional nutritionist look at it is key. As I said, I’m not an expert.

What are you feeding this to?  You mentioned cows.  This would be a very expensive ration to feed a non show/sale animal.

If you are feeding this to younger calves that aren't gaining enough (that are show or sale cattle), take the cottonseed hulls down to 100# and replace with oats.  Tell them to keep the crude protein the same, because they will need less soybean meal (oats have more protein than cottonseed hulls) and float the oats up to make a 2,000# batch.

The mineral/vitamin profile is fine.  The added calcium balances out the high phosphorus from the corn gluten feed.  If you wanted to make it great, add enough sel plex (organic selenium) to get your selenium up to at least 0.3ppm

We feed it to our show calves. We only have 8 head 3 show heifers soon to be bred this December and we feed it to our 5 Mama's to save on cost of buying two different feeds. The feed breaks down to about .18 to .20 cent per pound.

This feed has plenty of energy— It’s over 70% TDN which is a ‘finisher’ by definition.  I feed a very similar feed to steers we process.  It’s $14.86/cwt.
