help with SH bull choice (roan or white)

So getting ready to make our annual semen order.  I always let the kids pick their bulls on their cows.  My boy has a mutt.  She is SH/Herf/angus cross.  My least favorite cow of my boy's, but he loves the heck out of her.  This will be her second calf.  She currently has a heifer calf out of a heifer safe black angus bull.  She is really tall, narrow topped and has no butt.  (Boy I'm making this sound pathetic).  My boy wants to breed her to a roan or white SH bull. Goal to get a better heifer.
I have one straw of JPJ in my tank but wanted to get some back up semen.  Any ideas? Preferrably $25 and under?  Was looking at Saskvalley Yesterday 116Y?  Bonanza appears to be sold out?

REG#: 4113971  Captain Obvious- Solid red but will is deep bodied easy calving soft made especially his females. should bring overrall size down.

REG#: C471551  Alta Cedar First Blood- used on a Johnny Walker red solid red cow and had beautiful loud roan like him. Sires calving ease but also has some retro genetics in there. Should bring overrall size down. scurred.

Gizmo- Is all time favorite for adding rib and volume. He is a roan, but semen companies have him at $100 ticket. I have found his semen in online sales for much less. I try to carry a bank for specific females. he will put width in one really quick.

Your female has plenty of color and is carrying interesting pedigree. Shorthorn and Hereford should make for a patterned calf. Those are a few.

HC FL Touchdown 123T ET has done an excellent job for us. His sons have been our best sire group the past two years. In our 2014 bull sale his sons averaged $4870. in 2015 they averaged 5367. His daughters are making excellent brood cows- moderate framed, great udders and lots of milk. A daughter was our top selling heifer in 2014. In 2015 the Touchdown open heifers averaged $3660. We have semen at Hawkeye, and it is also available from Cattlevisions, and Genex. Touchdown was Canadian National Champion bull in 2009 and he is still going strong here. His calves are moderate BWs and is suitable for most heifers.
He is moderate framed, with excellent muscling especially through his hip and lower quarter.

I also have semen at Hawkeye on HC Free Spirit 6Y x. He has tremendous thickness and has a huge hip and butt. The European semen rights were sold to a group of Shorthorn breeders in Ireland and they are reporting his first calves there are very good. I am super impressed with our calf crop here. Some of our Free Spirit calves are what I consider to be the best we have had in many years. Other than one calf that was upside down and backwards, all his calves have been born unassisted.  They are mostly nice roans, and they are thick! 

Semen on both Touchdown and Free Spirit is $35/ straw. With cattle prices at record levels, and still going higher, we may have to raise our semen prices after this breeding season. Most semen is bargain priced in this market.

Ghost Rider is 2013 model. he should have had calves this year. His breeder is apprently not WHR. In the ASA you can't see breed average on his EPD's. I thought with his history Warhorse in there and Jake's proud jazz, you shouldn't get alot of size but you should get some clubbier calves.

I will try to snap a few over the next few days. Got 18 cows synch'd to AI on Saturday. Also setting up 20 recips and have to deliver a bull on Sunday. Lots of long hours but I love this business.
Here are a couple Free Spirit calves from 2014. Both these heifers have developed well. They are moderate and very thick. The white heifer is a May heifer. Her mother is 14 now and due any day to Free Spirit again. The roan heifer is an April heifer and she was in our show herd last fall at Agribition.

Our Free Spirit calves have been quite moderate at birth. By moderate I mean they are born unassisted with BWs of 90- 100 lbs. Free Spirit has excellent thickness and length and his calves are the same. Therefore, they have more BW. The heaviest Free Spirit calf we have had was 108 lbs from the biggest cow on the farm. He was also the only assist we have had as he was upside down and backwards. He is an amazing calf! I will try to get some pictures.
I am not breeding heifers to Free Spirit as we have much better choices for sires to breed to heifers. In my opinion, the most important thing you can do for a replacement heifer is breed her to a bull that will give her an unassisted birth. She will become a more productive cow and a more problem free cow.
One of my neighbors had some excellent Simmental and Limo cows. He bred all his heifers to a Longhorn bull for years... even when these breeds were selling like hotcakes. He always said this was the best investment he made in his cowherd. He said the Longhorn X calves averaged 70 lbs less than his Simmi and Limo calves and brought $.15 less when sold at weaning. He said this was a very good investment as his first calf heifers always bred back quickly and went on to become better cows. I always thought this man could teach a lot of practical cow sense to cattle producers. Unfortunately he died before he was 50, and the herd was dispersed.

I have a great set of bull and heifer calves out of him so far this year!  Not done calving yet.  We have used him over 4 years now.  He puts flesh on the calves and can even out some of your traits on the cow you are talking about.  His calves also feed out wonderfully!  We have lots of happy locker beef customers.
