Earlier this week the cemetery, where my parents have been laid to rest, was hit by vandals. There were 168 head stones knocked over. To desecrate a cemetery and the grave sites like this has to be one of the highest forms of disrespect that I can think of. Luckily my parents’ stone was not touched, but my great uncle and aunts stones were knocked over.
I would suspect that the individual or individuals responsible for this action were never taught any form of respect or responsibility. They probably are not or were never involved in activities like those discussed on this board that teach young people these characteristics.
When those responsible are caught or if they are caught, I am not sure what an appropriate punishment would be. Sorry for the rant, but I needed to vent some of my frustration because I see way to much of this type of activity occurring in to days society.

I am posting the link to one of the news stories on it.

that's really sad...a while back there were several cases of things like this happening...the cemetery where my family is buried had over 100 brass vases stolen...and there was an older cemetery next to it that allowed above ground momuments and they knocked over every one of them too....people are pathetic...

Problem with today's majority of population is simply this -- They have nothing to do at home, or worse yet -- are not MADE to do anything at home, thus they will find something to do -- usually bad!

Put these same delinquents on a livestock operation and see if they have the time or energy to go get in trouble after 8 hours of chores a day! 7 days a week that is! I know I never did, and neither did my boys!

Sorry for the disaster -- that is a trully a low thing to do!

Feel your pain. My mowing company mows a bunch of cemeteries for a township here and have stones dating back to 1802. Civil War soldiers to modern day. Kids did the same thing here to all of them. Broke a bunch of the really old ones in half when they pushed them over. The locals came together and did the best we could to fix them and within 2 months they did it again! Needless to say when they get caught, there will be big trouble for those punks. Sorry to hear our youth is doing this all over. Get a life, work on a farm.

I'm going out on a limb here, but... seems like too many "older generation" is trying to  raise their grandchildren, instead of forcing their actual parents to raise them.  How can a 70 year old keep up with a 16 year old? Where are the real parents?  It's about time we hold the PARENTS responsible for their childrens actions. If the parents want their kids to be "minors" (which is always the case when they are caught - and then beg for mercy because they are "just kids"), then we need to hold their parents responsible for their actions.

As far as putting them to work on a farm. As long as it is YOUR farm, and not mine (or near mine) I'm all for it. But I have too much to do rather babysit a bunch of troublemakers trying to eye something to steal or kill.  I mean, perfect example of that NOT working is a large dairy farm to the south of me.... lots of government money going to it, lots of "rehab" and "troubled" youth working there and only a 3% "success rate".

If and when caught they would be REQUIRED to pay for all repairs, and be forced to pick up leaves/trash/sticks  in the cemetary.  Then for good measure they should be forced to trim around every stone with sciccors.

We had an idiot/lowlife/crackhead here in Montgomery County, Texas that stole several brass urns from a cemetary.  He tried cutting them in half and selling the to a recycler but got caught.  Needless to say the sherrifs gave him a "Junkyard Intervention".

Desicrating a grave should get you a year of hard labor per grave and a tattoo on your forehead that states DUMB*** in bold letters for all to see as well as sterilization so you don't reproduce your obviously inferior genes! RW

Very well said, although 1 year may not be enough.  <beer>
