searching for more info on the Hot Commodity/ Commotion bulls-- and their breeding abilities. Any info would be appreciated.

Hot commodity is a k-kim allure X k-kim Meg 270. He is owned by Denny Jordan and was leased by Cates Farms last year. I am using him on all of my heifers this year. Denny said that he is a sleep easy , heifer safe bull. He seems to work really well on Sonny/ Trump influenced females. Commotion is out of HC and a Sonny cow. I saw him the day he sold and he is one of the biggest hipped shorty bulls I have seen around. HC is on the open market but Commotion is $2,500 to get in on. I really like HC.

Just thinking out loud- but is he working so good on Sonny/ Trumps-- b/c that's what's out there needing bred for first calves, and needing something promoted as such- or does he really work on them? A family member of one of the owner's informed me that he'll lengthen growth curve-- I wonder if that's due to the Sonny/ Trump influence of what he's getting mated to-- as I wouldn't think a late bloomer would be a good match for a super late bloomer.

The thing I've liked the best about our Hot Commodity's is their desire to get up and go so quickly after being born. Ours have just kept coming from day 1, gaining weight and filling out.
Have a blue roan baby out of a Cupid (Angus) x Pure Solution cow that I think is going to make a really cool steer, and sold a heifer calf last fall that will make a good show heifer and a heck of a cow as well as one my brother is showing this summer.
It will be interesting to see how his heifers produce, hopefully its as good as I think they will.

I get what you are saying. We decided to use HC for 2 reasons. One he is heifer safe according to Denny. As far as I am concerned that is the most important thing to me. Denny is one of the most honest guys around so I trust his first had experience over some of the other bulls out there that are so called easy calving. Second, the calves I have seen have all been above average on quality. Commotion in particular was the most impressive bull of any breed the day he sold at the Illinois beef expo. In fact, he was the high seller over all breeds. Also, as far a s performance and maturity he was very mature and masculine for a yearling bull at that time. I have not seen him since. Additionally, I have seen heifers out of HC and commercial cows as well as some Studer's Prince James daughters. To me they were just as impressive. All that being said I would not call his calves early or late maturing, just average. I would call Denny he will tell you everything you want to know good or bad about the bull.

I was wondering this morning, are there any good Hot Commodity sons out there that are readily available for AI? He's been used enough that you would think somebody would have one they'd be promoting by now, but I can't think of one off the top of my head.

CSF Evolution is pretty popular.
Funny enough, we'd like to raise a HC son but have been very heifer heavy with him. I feel he does need to be used on a special cow to produce a son better than he is.

I went through the progeny list a couple times trying to find a red son that jumped out at me before just using HC himself again this fall.
I've only put eyes on a few of his calves, but decided to drop Evolution in on a Leader 9th x Picture Perfect flush next week.

That sounds like a good combo-I like the way Evolution looks-and think he'd really compliment something like that:I dont think Id use him on a linebred Trump-Solution type pedigree-he already has that on the bottom JMO-The Picture perfects are really unique-aptly named O0
