It’s kinda funny that this forum is called The big show but no one is talkin about one of the greatest steer shows in the country...? Posts are about young feeders that are trying to figure it it out and some unknown breeders breeding some who cares bulls. What happened to the show steer people? I thought San Antonio was the the best and I mean competitive shows of all times. Houston just had a judge bumble thru and may just get it right at the end. Cmon let’s talk show cattle holy crape did you see Dragar win the AOC class in Htown. These are the best show cattle in the country SLICK mind you... and no discussion abt them? my goodness you folks are missing out

So, rather than start a useful thread about the show, you start out by putting down some people who are trying to get it all figured out. Pretty much the main purpose of the board is to do just that. You wanna talk about the show call one of your friends and talk. Don't come here and get pissed because no one is talking about what you want to talk about. Or better yet, start a new thread an discuss it.

Oh yea, are you a breeder? Of big name cattle? If so please post your information here so I know who not to buy from in the future.

The person has been a member for 7 years and has 15 post, I would not worry to much. It will be at least 6 month before the post again.

I’ve read a majority of the posts on this forum and I don’t say much. I’m not a champion poster. I find it interesting that nobody talks about two of the biggest steer shows in the country.. im not on Facebook but if I were I would expect comments like this from sensitive people. More to my point than the delivery is that the only reason we are on this forum is we show cattle in major shows and seems that not anything people post are about that. Ha gate keepers

I understand your point Roadrunner.  Honestly, the coverage of shows in general (not Steerplanet, but blogs as well) is way down.  One of the biggest early open shows up north is in Norfolk NE and held on Thanksgiving weekend.  I have seen 800+ head of prospects at that show in years past, and likely the attendance is similar today.  I live 50 miles from there, and didn't see a single post from the show.  I have no idea who was there or who won.

Back to the Houston conversation.  I know that there is a tremendous Texas following on Steerplanet, but I would say the majority of members here are from up North.  Not to minimize the accomplishment of winning Houston...but many of us Northerners don't really care about Slick shows.  I don't understand why the solution 30 years ago was to take the hair off of them.  I don't believe it is the right answer, and believe that it has created an absolutely insurmountable obstacle for the "average show family".

I appreciate your post, and agree with you.  That is the reason why I don't post about the slick shows.

Roadrunner, I have to ask why not start a discussion about Houston rather than one about why we aren’t discussing Houston?  Like Tallcool1 said, we really don’t get much discussion about steer shows anywhere on this forum anymore.  Unlike Tallcool1, I have nothing against slick shear shows, and would be interested, but I wasn’t there. I’m in Oklahoma, getting ready for OYE (another very big very tough show I haven’t seen mentioned here). I don’t think we have a ton of people on this board anymore that go to these shows, or if they do they couldn’t tell you what happened beyond what they’re own kids did. Not knocking anyone, it’s just the way it is.
