It's good to keep all the daughters we can from cows like that.  Sometimes it's also good to keep a son of their's, too.  I've got a 13 year old Augusta cow that just weaned what I think is my best 2014 born bull calf.  He's going to stay here a while.  Unfortunately I've only got 2 daughters in the herd.  I used another son of her's a little bit and have 10 outstanding daughters of him.  The old girl will calve next spring to Zulu.  Good luck prying that calf away from me if it's a heifer.

I unfortunately haven't got any other females out of old Julie aside from the 2 mentioned.  She has had mostly bull calves and daughters have been sold as sale features (not bright of me!)  Would love to see pictures of your bull calf!

Guess the first question I would have ask would've been: what stage of lactation is she in?

1st photo taken yesterday, the calf was born April 6 so 6 2/3 months
2nd photo above -10 months (still nursing as she was in the cow/calf class)
3rd photo above -about 7 months, would have been end of August 2008, the year after the show photo, that was taken the end of Nov.2007
