I think she grew up on a family owned feedlot if I ain't mistaken.

She grew up NEXT to a family owned feedlot.  The one that they showed her on on American Idol was her neighbors.

Wouldn't you feel a little dishonest by portraying yourself in that manner?  That would be like me saying I'm a doctor because my house is next to the hospital!

Voted for George! I've met George several times over the years & he's as down to earth as they come. Another one that is a down to earth guy is Garth, I've hauled hay with him when he lived here just outside of Nashville.

Don't forget that she is donating money to HSUS from the downloading of her new American Idol song that she remade....

Carrie Underwood Remakes Mötley Crüe Hit for American Idol

March 9, 2009
Carrie Underwood has recorded a version of Mötley Crüe's "Home Sweet Home" for American Idol. Starting on Wednesday (March 11), the song will be played when contestants are voted off the show and will be available as a digital single on iTunes on March 16. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). "I've always loved this song, and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes," Underwood said. "So we felt it was important to tie the release into an amazing animal charity like the HSUS." Underwood won American Idol in 2005.

So don't let your kids download that one!

Statement intended to keep $$ from getting in HSUS pockets. Everyone I have spoke to about it has gotten my side of the story.
Thanks for that.

Either way, those animal rights people are getting lots of money and support. It is really scary how powerful they could end up being!

I applaud you all for your knowledge of the HSUS.  I assumed it was the same Humane Society as when I was young; even at the local level, willing and able to come to the rescue of starving Horses, abandoned pets, and neglected livestock.  My study since reading these posts has educated me of the real HSUS.

Three reasons to distrust HSUS:

Despite a staggering income, HSUS does not run any animal shelters.
Despite a misleading name, HSUS does not promote humane, wise use of animals, or animal welfare, but is an animal rights organization with views as radical as PETA's and is managed by the same people.
They use this deception to their advantage, receiving millions from animal lovers who believe that their donation will go toward taking care of dogs and cats that need homes, when in reality HSUS is little more than an activist group.

HSUS at a Glance:
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is a Washington, D.C.-based animal welfare group. The HSUS is one of the largest animal organizations in the world. In 2006 it operated on a budget of US$103 million. 2007 saw an increase in both membership and revenues, to 10.6 million members and a budget of US$120 million.2007 Annual report

Now, please allow me to take an unpopular stance; the side of Carrie Underwood.

I do not know Ms Underwood, however, I admire what she has accomplished, and how graciously she has accepted her many successes.  A great friend of mine, an elementary teacher in Muskogee, OK, has worked with Carrie Underwood's sister for many years.  This friend has kept us well informed of the real Carrie stories through the past few years (not what is printed in the gossip news).  I for one am sure Carrie Underwood has the same thoughts about the efforts of HSUS as I before I did my research.  I know for a fact it has nothing to do with her being a vegetarian.  I've been told that as a young child, she never liked the taste (or texture) of meat.  The girl likes vegetables!  So does my wife.  She eats meat only because I demand it.  Carrie Underwood is from small town Oklahoma; raised on a small, family farm.  She IS an animal lover, which surely would lead her to support agencies such as the HSUS.  To most, such an endorsement would be seen as positive.  How was she to know?  Carrie is 26, and most every move she makes is directed by her managers.  I remember when I was 26; my track record was not too good when it came to making wise decisions.

I say "Give her a break."  As she matures, she will learn to scrutinize those organizations she chooses to support.  Just listen to the music!  She is FANTASTIC!
