We are trying to be more competitive at our county fair and are improving our feeding program and cool room. However we know the people that do well at our fair are using some sort of implants to help their steers. We were thinking of revalor but of the 6 types didn't know what we should use? We have a shorthorn and Angus steer. The Angus has a lot of growing to do. He is under 400lbs and needs to be market weight come the end of August. The shorthorn is over 600ish lbs and is stouter than the Angus but could use some depth. Any suggestions are appreciated. How much do they actually help and is it worth it? Thanks.

I would do your research online. There are bunches of post under the search feature here on plant. I go back frequently and look at the older post. I would use the implants that are most economical and easy for you to get.
We have always had goodluck with what we have purchased at TSC. (Ralgro) It has helped some alot especially those that need that little extra push.

Revalor G and S are the same thing, but S is three times the dose.  I implant to build muscle but dont do it till they are around 1000 lbs.

So are multiple doses of different implants a good idea? To give them a kick now give them Ralgro or Synovex C and then implant with Revalor at 1000lbs? How do you know how long an implant lasts for? I'm guessing the pellets dissolve when used up? Sorry if these are dumb questions we have never used them before.

We have never used implants either, was wondering if it effects the meat at all, regarding to taste?

synovex c on your angus, its just strictly a booster (c stands for calf) and it wont screw him up but will make him more efficient

Ok so should we implant him once until 1000lbs or every so many days?

i would hit him 1 time now, then when his structure and maturity can handle a harder implant (1000lbs) i would go with that S that was mentioned earlier, i wouldnt do anything more than a calf implant now because im not sure its beneficial risk/reward on a young one

we only use implants on our commercial steers and we have never notice a difference in the meat quality or taste.
as far as implanting a show steer i woud be careful tho. for you they will be very beneficial right now as a calf. BUT once they get bigger i would evaluate where they are at and how much farther they need to grow. the implants are going to help build muscle but since they make them grow so fast they often make the steer lose its "bloom" and his eye apeal. especially if you have one that maybe is lacking in somearea or needs a feature hidden.

USE WITH CAUTION AFTER 1000 POUNDS
