i remember watching cows getting flushed, pulling the embryos out, seeing them under a microscope, on a petri dish in media. I can't remember if that was the procedure for freezing or what. i just remember seeing people work on embryos a few times back then. didn't really dawn on me how powerful that was.

i remember everyone was gaga over the heifer as well as the other dividend daughter and a deerpark improver 2 daughter.


shorthorns went downhill with regard to industry impact after this.


i took pictures of all the cattle for 3 years on breed feeder project, each purebred breeder had i think 5 head. i remember the shorthorns had ribeyes about the size of longhorn and longhorn had better marbling. hereford had 0.  i've tried to dig up all those photos but i can't find them.  there was about 200 photos of when they all came in, a day before they went to slaughter and all their ribeyes at harris slaughter house. super cool. it was then i saw holstein carcasses for the first time and their internal fat was "internal" and they were very well marbled. back then, it was possible to see almost all the breeds carcasses in a purebred form. never again.


from memory, hereford-horned and polled, salers, gelbvieh, angus (not horned), brangus, brahman, shorthorn, limousin, (can't remember on maine's) longhorn, pinzgauer, simmental. a few others i can't remember. too bad that will never happen again.  other than the brangus, they were all purebreds. there was probably some crossbreds in there, but i don't remember what they were.

Are there any pictures of POLY D Cumberland 725 floating around out there?  I found this picture of a daughter of hers.

Thanks for sharing knabe. I bet those hfrs would have looked a lot different if fed like today's sale cattle are. Of course,  they were probably more fertile in the condition they were in than today's...

Around 1993 or so  there was a bull born at George Alschwedes and a couple years later a bull born i  Iowa sired by Debull and out of an AF Improver 45 Shorthorn  cow from mantua Farms-who also at one time owned Miss D Cumberland -These two would be Double Stuff a Shorthorn -and Heatseeker-a Shorthorn plus-I dont think any other animals in history ever affected more sectors of the cattle industry and over more breeds and types or ever will. O0

I use to breed cows for folks. One farm in particular had a bunch of heat seeker cows. They were insane. I don’t get nervous around cattle but those things were like Satan himself. The farmer would leave the cow or cows that needed bred in a pen and I had to do the rest. I didn’t get paid enough for that circus.

I had one that was as quiet as any she was red and out of a Midas cow -All the Doublestuffs Ive had or been around were very good natured -Maybe the nuts had some more Chi in them or something from thier dams The most dangerous cow I ever had was Granada Destiny sired by leader 18th-the mother of the whole Destiny deal She was big, mean, and lightning fast O0

I just wish that some Shorthorn cows got flushed to 6807. To me that would be the best thing that could happen to the breed. It would bring in a new line of genetics that may be useable to the breed through the appendix set up.

1: Her sire only sired 4 calves or something-her dam had 6 maybe-SHE MAY HAVE HAD 1 "CALF"IN fall ? 1985  IF THAT WAS HER FIRST AND SUPPOSEDLY SIRED BY SRS INSTANT REPLAY RATHER THAN A CATES BULL-It was the bull calf that was then supposedly on a mature maine looking cow at the Hoyts Shorthorn Central sale or something who went on to sire about 1700 registered shorthorns alone -He was also an all time cow killer-He was HS INSTANT ENTICER-Was he her  calf? NOTTTT
2: Aldens Dividend heifer-and what a coincidence-thats the best female from that era Ive ever seen-I want to get in a time machine-go back and flush her to Cunia

My dad had lot 6 in that sale she was a daughter of the good bull excitement that came from joebntn on here. He said that the heifer damar farms had was pretty great but couldn’t remember where she went to.

Damar had some real good cattle for the day I think they may have gotten into Red Angus or some other breed O0
