I have heard that Jazzman is a TH carrier but I on this site it says he is Neg. for both TH and PHA could I get some clarification please?

Jazzman is a carrier of the Outcast TH mutation (the really rare one) - he does not carry the Improver TH mutation. My understanding is that when he was tested the Outcast mutation was only tested for if the pedigree suggested that it should be. His pedigree did not suggest that he would have the Outcast mutation, so that test was not run. Apparently he sired TH calves and then was tested for the Outcast mutation (which he has). Since the sire and dam on the pedigree are TH free is pedigree has to be inaccurate - not sure that was ever sorted out...bottom line yes he is a TH carrier

so he's THF for improver mutation.  whew.

THC Improver x THC Outcast = ?

two rear ends with even more hair?

it's too bad we can't select for steers with a spinal column that splits behind the withers so we can get more filet's.  i guess there would be too much round meat and the prime rib might look weird.

Lol. I mostly meant I forgot if you breed those two together, is there still a 25% chance of a TH calf?

For each mating --->
50% carrier
25 % free
25% dead

the dead calf would be what is called a "compound heterozygote" meaning that you have 2 different mutant alleles at the same locus that together can cause disease (in this case death - is death the ultimate disease?)

why can't someone clone one of these things, generate some totipotent cells and make some semen?

still, can't believe there aren't clone auctions of embryo's from champion steers.

Knabe, shut your dirty cakehole (or typers). Fabers rolling with two clones has me edgy, marketing clone embryos to be steers will make me a full on Kit Pharo disciple.

Isnt there though. The Colonel, Solid Gold and its too early to think of any more but they have semen out there. Is that what you mean Knabe?

no, i mean like having a steer sale, but all the offerings are embryo's out of steers that are either sold as embryo's that will be steers or the actual clones  are castrated.  seems like cloning is almost cheap enough for that to happen, especially with people paying 20k and greater for non-clone steers.  it would seem the guesswork would be less if the top producers would just make clones for everyone.  they could call the sale, "send in the clones", or "clone wars".
