Caution - Good natured ribbing ahead.

My visit to the Iowa State Fair on Saturday did not include a visit to the Governor's Charity Steer show because there was no room left in the pavilion.  Tonight I saw Mr. jbh on IPTV  judging the Governor's Charity Steer show.  They said it took him an hour to find his champ.  Once he chose his steer, he took it easy on Mr.Grassely by not slapping the champ.  Either he remembers Jerry Douglas' advice or last year's mishap.  Mr. Grassley champ and Mr. Culver reserve.  With his tie and obvious network professionalism I would almost guess he was campaigning for some sort of government appointment.

Seriously, I am glad one of our own had such a lofty task.  Brad, you did a great job.  I will post a link to the video once it is available.

I thought that it took Brad longer than that to find a champ.  By the time the tv cameras and interveiws got over with it gave a guy plenty of time to reveiw, re-reveiw, talk to people in the crowd and go over them again!

Great job, great event!!

I hope that the cavity search and background check that the Governor's security detail required of the judge did not detract too much from the show!  ;)

You guys are too hard on jbh out there! and the t-shirt from Lautner's blog too  (lol)

We got home from the State Fair last night and I was SOOOOOO tired I collapsed before the TV show came on......hope to catch it on the Sunday re-run.

It might have taken THEM an HOUR to get everyone interviewed and the show put on....BUT.....it only took me about 5 seconds after I saw ALL the cattle to figure out the Champion.  He was nice!

Had a blast doing it and there will be more to come about the Governors Security and T-shirt episodes.

Love the Governor's Charity Steer show. Our family has shown in it a couple times and won it once.  It is a great experience for the young people involved.  There is so much pomp involved in the event and the young kids get treated like celebrities.  The"show" itself might get a little long however, that is more the main focus of the event verses picking the winner. Putting on an "event" to raise money for a great cause....what a great lesson to teach young people.
I have heard that it was difficult for the origanizers to find a good set of quality cattle to participate this year. There were some nice cattle in the event and Hope this event continues.  I agree that the top was an easy choice.  Liked him alot in the barn.
