I got my first calf out of him the other day and i am not too impressed.  Calf is way too straight  and will probably never walk worth a hoot.  the cow is a half blood sim and is very sound and to make things better it is a heifer.  Any one else have better luck with him? i have a few more on the way Im just looking for some encouragement <beer>

I had a couple, they were decent- I would use him again if I had the semen in the tank.  I did have one that got plenty straight though, too.

Look something like this? I have a heifer too that's will hopefully be OK, but she's plenty straight too. Kind of glad the some of the other cows I bred him to missed.

WOW- maybe splints on those front legs? How old is the little heifer? She looks uncomfortable.

This guy is almost a month old.  don't think splints will do him any good at this point. When he first gets up after lying down he's not quite as bad, but any length of time on his feet and he just bucks over worse and worse. His right front has gotten slightly better the past few days, but he'll never be right. I'll probably have to put him down at some point, but hopefully he'll get big enough to make a little hamburger. BTW, mom's a decently sound Ice Chest cow.

we had a JWR a few year ago that looked exactly like your heifer.  We put him in the feed lot with the other calves figuring he wouldnt make it but believe it or not he stayed right with the group and went on the truck with the rest of the fats when the got loaded out!!

I had a heifer develop severe spastic paresis at 5 months age. We made veal out of her. The steaks are amazing. Her hamburger was lean lean lean.

I did have a calf similar to this in 2003 (Hairy Crumb) and two other calves in the past that would buck over if they stood too long. Did some record checking, and they're all from the same cow family.  Makes you think there might be a genetic component?

You folks that raise a bunch of club calves, how often do train wrecks like this occur? We've not used CC bulls much in the past.

I dont use many cc bulls.  thats why I used jwr because he is not as high powered as other bulls and he is clean.  This is the first one of these I have had. Mostly I stick to the half blood game.

I have one that is just a calf. Like many, many club calf bulls, they are just highly promoted, fluffed and stuffed, over rated herd bulls at best.

Maines in PA:  Club calf people have a very very short memory when it comes to train wrecks. In fact, many have no memory of them at all!

We've used JWR for 3 or 4 years now and have yet to have had one too straight.  Not to say they've all been great ones, but no train wrecks for sure.  We have a couple of daughters that should calve this fall that look like they should make really nice cows, and a bull that'll be 2 this fall that we're pretty excited about, and he's sound as a cat.  I'll try to get some pics of the bull when he gets back in shape - yearling bulls that have been breeding cows all winter tend not to be so photogenic.

I have my first one drying as I type this. Bull calf, unassisted, built like a brick, just like I like em. Got two more coming, Ill hope for the best.

Mine weren't anything like that.  Mine were like I said, a little straight, not to the point that inhibits the mobility.

However, my cows don't have much clubby breeding.

To maines in pa we have had a calf just like that. I was going to put it down but decided to give it a second chance. We gave the calf a shot and it cleared up in about a month. I cant remember what the vet gave us but it worked. The vet suggested giving the cow a shot of mu-se 2 weeks before calving.

Didnt get to read all the posts but i got criticized on here way back when because i said when i seen him at the OBE i thought he was an absolute nightmare and if anyone bought semen on this bull they needed to just throw it out. Now that he has been used some there have been a lot of people having structure problems out of thier JWR. Dont chance it, dont use the semen anymore.
