Are Jr Associations worth getting involved in at the state level? I guess I am just getting very frustrated because according to the AHA (hereford) there is not a JR Colorado Association. When ever I attempt to ask what my options are I never get a responce.

If you could be a part of a Jr associations what would be your expectations of them?  You asked if it is worth it, my answer would be yes but I would like to hear your answer before I can tell you if it would be worth it to you...

Well I would like to one day show at the national level. Sounds like most people are involved at the state level to do that.

Then I would say yes it would be worth it... I assume you are talking about breed associations so I will share something with you.  We have been apart of 3-4 different breed assc. since my daughter started showing. Some are alot better than others but for the most part they get it done.  I'm not certain but I would say that most are run by volunteers or have very few paid staff members.  As a result, they spend most of their time and energy focusing on their specific agendas or annual events like state and national shows.  That being said, its not always easy to get in touch with someone or have your questions answered in a timely manner unless it approaching time for one of these events.  In my opinion, the most to be gained out of Jr asscs. are the people and friends that you will meet along the way but in some cases you will have to be willing to do a little leg work yourself...Hope this hepls and that other will chyme in as well..

Absolutely the Junior State Associations can be worth it.  Not every state has an active jr assoc in every breed..    Our state has several breeds  with very active junior associations and a couple breed where I'm not even sure they exist.    Anyway..IF you are willing to do the work...  start with the Colorado Hereford Assn.  Find out what they have going on and what you need to do to get a jr assn going.  Talk to members and sponsers of some of the other state jr assns to find out what can and does happen.

State level associations are great, but if you really don't have one just go ahead and forge on to the junior national. The Hereford people are great, their junior national is amazing and the experiences are life changing. I might be biased because I was able to go to every junior national in my career, was on the board, was a queen, won in the ring and made amazing friends along the way. What more does a parent want for their children? And, who knows- you guys might be the driving force behind getting a junior association back in Colorado. The AHA can guide a state on that.

Good luck and get your family entered in the junior nationals! Plan to make memories in Kansas City this summer!!!
