Well call me late to the party, but for the first time in 38 years, I used a non-Shorthorn bull on one of our top donors. I was told by numerous TX guys to do it and create "Shorthorn looking" cattle. Well, we'll see if it was worth it or not.

The donor gets flushed Monday, and we were told by several breeders to use Tiger Woods. Does this make me less of a breeder, because I feel like I jumped the shark. Kind of like cheating on your girlfriend.

lol...  I can't believe you would cheat on your shortys like that. I should say at least if you're going to go with a different breed use a simmy bull so you could least improve the shorthorns in the process  (lol) I don't think it's a bad thing. We breed for what we have a market for and what we can sell and what does good. I'm a die hard simmy breeder but I've bred my top donor to Manchild... I say go for it.

You go Stu. I've got Shorty cows due this year to Hairy Bear and Felony. Any time I can send them south without papers the better.

I bred several of mine ( mostly heifers ) to Northern Improvement in hopes of getting some quality 1/2 blood replacements but I've done the Angus/Shorty thing for a while.

His was a Monopoly son out of a Dr. Who cow. I heard that Dr. Who would help out with the milk part of the pedigree.

Also, I needed a red bull, so they "look" like Shorthorns.

From the pictures, he looks ok. The cow never misses, so we will see.

I would have used Crimson Tide, but wanted to stay away from the PHA.

Not a bad day at the office. Got 6 - No.1s and 3- No. 2's. Will put them in for March and September calves.
