Kicking Hiefer

Does anyone have any tips on how to get a show hiefer to stop kicking? She tries to kick everytime you walk by her.

Sullivans have a stop kicking thing you can buy.. or there's like cuffs you can put on the hind feet to stop them from kicking

Is she kicking because you are surprising her or because she wants to?  Is she an angus.. if so, good luck with that! (clapping) 

We have a kicker this year and its been years since we've had one..  and yes she's got some angus.  Anyway, we just put her on the wash rack and stood back and sprayed her legs with the full blast of water and let her kick the water, she kicks and kicks and wears herself out.  We found several hot button spots and basically desensitized her with the water spray.    Took several sessions but she did get over it.. mostly.    She started up kicking again when we took her to her first show and then it was after she'd gotten scared at the new surroundings.

She's just kicking because she wants to.  She is full Gelbvieh, no Angus. She is a second year show hiefer.  Didn't have this trouble out of her last year. Other than the kicking she is very sweet and loving.  I'll try spraying her with the water at the wash rack and see how that goes. Thanks.

i am having the same issue with our heifer.  shown since September and never kicked and now she is taking swipes at me. 
I need to cure her pretty fast because she has my 10 year old pretty spooked now.  I have done the water thing and she doesn't move then, seems to do it in spurts and then will stop altogehter

We usd a broom on the 4h calf last year with water took a while but he got over it. He was mostly angus

My grandpa always said to kick them back, but I dont reccomend it  (thumbsup) lol

if you have a steel chute, let her have a couple cracks at the bar when you walk past, she'll get over it after a few times. sounds mean but it has worked well for me.

Put a billy goat in with her. The goat will walk underneath the heifer and bunt her in the hind quarter and eventually the heifer will get used to it. Nothing works better from what I've found. Good luck.
