Launching a new show results site -- would need help

I would like to launch a new site that can be a one stop shop for show results. It would be from blogspot, so in a blog form. I would also post articles/news relating to the show cattle world.

I do not travel to every show obviously, so I would need a lot of help from people to collect results as soon as possible. I'd prefer them either day of show or a few days after, not like weeks later. I'd set up an email so that people can send results directly to me. Obviously I probably won't be able to post results from EVERY show. I would probably cut out small local shows or fairs and focus more on larger shows and jackpot shows across the country.

Thoughts??

I think it is a great idea.  Many of us who attend a lot of shows and have smartphones could easily send you results right out of the ring.  Mittags have been trying to do this but don't get a lot of shows.  Would be more than happy to send ...just let us know where to send them

Awesome.
I'll work on getting the site set up and ready to go. I'd like to have it ready for Lousiville because I know a lot of people always want to know the results from there.

Good luck with your website.  I can tell your challenge will be having people actually follow through on providing results, imho.  I have always tried to get people to write articles or contribute and it is tough to find people that will actually follow through.  I even offer that they can advertise their website on their post or article, which will be displayed very visibly on the frontpage.

But, if you can get it going, I will sure give you a prominent link and try to help you in any way that I can.  I applaud you for looking to fill a niche.  (thumbsup)

Thanks!
I agree, I have a feeling it is gonna be like pulling teeth to get people to send in results. Until it's a prominent site it will probably slip everyone's minds.

I show dogs competitively and that is where I got the idea because there are numerous sites dedicated to show results, and since almost everyone who shows knows about them, everyone sends in results just as they happen. It's almost like being there because if you click refresh a few times there is always an update! Obviously I won't get this site to that point right away but I'll attempt.

I love the idea.  I do think it would be more successful if you could allow for more involvement - meaning instead of folks submitting their results to you and you posting them on your blog - allow folks to submit the results instantly. I don't know if a wiki or something of that nature would work better for that format?  Then a smartphone app created for both viewing and submitting would be cool.  I think the easier you make this the more involvement you are going to get.  Also to get started, you are probably going to have to post the results you get in on the steerplanet forum to get folks used to checking your blog.  Just some ideas.  I hope this works out because I think it'd be awesome to have something like that.

You're not the first to attempt it, here's some advice from previous failed attempts so you don't waste your time chasing the same carrot...

You'll need to hire people that collect the results and send them to you.  Don't expect people to do it out of the kindness of their hearts because while they might do one or two shows for you, they won't have a reason to continue doing it.

The shows themselves will send you results about 1 out of 4 times you request them.

If it's just a blog, what advantage would you have over guys like Matt who are probably the closest thing to a show results site there is right now.

If you are going to make the site interactive, learn to code, don't try to outsource it.  This world doesn't translate well to people who would do that work in an affordable manner.

Find a person who goes to all of the big shows who will send you results. There are PLENTY of them.
