what would you clubby breeders out there say to a 5/8 maine bull who has no Heat Wave/Seeker, Who, Flush, or Meyer who delivers tons of power, hair, and bone, whilst still being sound, can definitely add milk to daughters, is Gray in color and THF and PHAF and won't kill your cows in the process?

edit - here he is at 10 days or so. He's still a bull at the moment - June 10 2010 - I don't know if he will stay a bull or not. He's extremely stout atm for a 2 month old calf

I'd say there are a bunch of unproven bulls with owners who say that.  When he has calves that live up to the hype, call me.

If you were listening to Hook, you would say "Thank You God"....  Problem is even Hook admitted it would be a challenge to get any of the "big dogs" to look at him. Whatcha got Zach?

carl s..... all the bulls promoted at denver haven't had a calf on the ground.... are you saying all those bulls are crap and the promoters of those bulls should wait until they have PROVEN THEMSELVES?
Oh, wait, most would be 2 years old by the following Denver, have calves that aren't worth looking at, and probably have trouble staying vertical for display.
The name of this game (not that I agree) is promote first, prove later.

I’m not sure what confused you but I said “I'd say there are a bunch of unproven bulls with owners who say that.  When he has calves that live up to the hype, call me.”

It’s right there.

sounds like  a good bull too make females... nowadays i think its imperitive to bring some non club calf genetics back into ur herd... Now you are describing a near perfect bull, which is very hard to come by, but if u have him then more power to you... Im still young but think that a man with access to 1000 head of commercial cows, with no club calf influence, can find a few females who look the part, AI them to a clubby bull and come out on top... let the cow supply some growth, structure and look, compliment that with the power and look brought forth by most clubby bulls and i think you have a recipe for success

I guess honestly Zach, he'll be a very, very hard sell b/c of the gray. They have to be perfect to promote one. Possibly the gray may not hurt him in the slick shear areas of the country. What do the rest of you think about the color?

Zach... now that you have teased us, got any pics even if he is young?  What was his BW?
Personally, I like the grey, but black does tend to win, but we have had some success out here.

If he is just a calf how do you know that  he is going to pass all of those traits on to his offspring?

depends if we are talking diluter simmy rat tail grey, or if its a smokey gray. Either way if he is what Zach makes him out to be, the color wont hurt a bit. A color dilution gene doesnt quite bother as much as the alphabet soups of genetic trainwrecks that are around. Call me crazy, but I would rather be docked a smidge at the salebarn than have deformities and dead stock.

I don't. However this is easily the best calf I have ever seen at such a young age. Not that I get around much or anything but he is a horse.

This bull has absolutely no Simmental in him.

I do, however I'm going to hold off on pics till we get him in and get him fed and clipped etc etc. BW - 90's
