I know what you're thinking: I ought to take my own medicine and pull out the OCC Homer or order some Northern Improvement. But due to my circumstances, I kind of need a "clubby" type bull that won't kill my heifers. Pull, OK, but I won't do a C-section. These are some large LimFlex females that should be able to handle a decent sized calf, but again, I want to ere on the side of caution. They will be bred this coming spring for March/April calves. The reason I want a good bull is because I'll be selling a few come fall as bred heifers. Thanks for input. Also, are there any Tiny Tim calves? Both him and Rocky are out of Ali, I noticed.

You probably can do it yourself but you will need a ...  whatever they call that thing..  Pelvicometer?    We used to have our AI tech to do it, because she knew what she was doing and was fast at it.

Thanks. I'll keep him in mind. But can anyone tell me why WMW is only $25 on the Lautner site? It would seem that he'd be really expensive by now.

Is there a WMW clone they are selling semen on?

If you go simmi, there are also several DO sons that are really producing..   Built Right has been mentioned on here several times.

Actually I've been thinking alot about using Lutton on our Simmi hfrs.

Hmmm..... An interesting thought there. Actually, I don't think Lautner has any clones, but there are a couple out there. There are also some decent Who sons.

If you're looking to produce "show" animals, I woiuldn't go with Built Right.  Have a purebred Simmi heifer (out of an old show cow donor) that we are actually showing/ selling as a commercial heifer.  Too plain to do well in the show ring.

A really good clubby calf that is dead, along with a paralyzed heifer, is a good enough reason to use a proven, high accuracy calving ease bull on heifers -

if you want to increase the chances of having a live calf and a live heifer - use an Angus or Red Angus bull with good BW and CE numbers and high accuracy (like > 90%).

If you want to increase your risk of having a dead calf, paralyzed heifer, or disaster use a clubby bull on heifers - the clubby, Maine, Chi, crosses can get you into a heap of trouble - like a 155 lb C-section calf out of a "calving ease" Maine sire

Pelvic measuring is a good tool to kick out the heifers with a pelvis the size of a walnut - it's utility beyond that is questionable

FWIW

DL, again, I appreciate that information. That seems to be a good route to go, and I should know. I sell Angus!  (lol) Interesting things you all had to say. I'm looking over these bulls. But again, a dead heifer and/or calf ain't doing me a heck of a lot of good. :-\ Anyone had Rocky calves? It seems he should be up here, but he hasn't been mentioned. I think it was Matt Lautner that had a really nice calf that was 25% or 50% Lim on his site.

I have used Wulf's NASA with great results and you would get a 75% LIM-FLEX instead of something that would classify as Chi or AOB. You might get a red one though, I did. I have some PB Limi heifers that I'm either going to use Dream On or Maybe Grizz for the first two years and hope for heifers, then go clubby. I like the idea of using DO so you could use a bull that had 734 in him somewhere.
