Does anyone have the results from Leveldale sale yesterday.

Few cows I was interested in sold towards the beginning so I didn't stick around for the whole sale but here's what I got:

I believe the sale average was $4,998. Don't remember total sales though.

I thought the interest was strong throughout the sale, as there were no soft spots, and cattle sold across the US and Canada. Great set of real world cattle. The top cow was lot 2 at $10,200 to Sullivan Farms. Lots and lots of bred females in the $3800 to $5000 range.

As much as it sucks having to bid against him  (lol) I sure like seeing him invest in these more functional type cattle. I've always held that he was the only breeder I knew of who had the capacity to single handedly bring the breed into the commercially relevant light-- it sure brings a smile to my face to see his program moving in that direction.

Yes.  It is one of the more important commercial traits.

Would it be out of fashion or overly critical to call that lot 2 cow's udder questionable?

I'm not saying all of my cows are perfect, and we're culling on udders now, but to be called a truly elite cow I think she could use some significant improvement in udder attachment and teat placement.

She's a very good cow in most aspects, and this is not a knock on the Leveldale program, but in their footnote they specifically make mention of her udder quality.

I'm not saying all of my cows are perfect, and we're culling on udders now, but to be called a truly elite cow I think she could use some significant improvement in udder attachment and teat placement.

I nvr said the cow was elite-- but I do think she's a TREMENDOUS improvement over the type more commonly seen promoted by that camp.  Her udder may be far from ideal, but in comparison, again, to their more commonly promoted cattle,  she belongs on the front cover of Hoard's.

I guess that's fair enough.  I base my opinion on cattle with a certain prefix on the ones I own and come into contact with regularly and it doesnt seem to be representative of the admittedly enormous and varied number of cattle they produce.

That being said, does anybody have any firsthand experience with this Rosewood cow family, specifically the ones at Mathers? Our Rosco is a Taylor Made out of a Rosewood (I believe she is Ringos maternal sister) and I just love him so far. I'd absolutely hate to have to cull his daughters or stop using him because of a persistent udder problem, which is our biggest challenge at the moment.

I saw the "Bruce Humble" or EF group of cows that Les purchased as first and second calvers years ago and loved the entire group. I have snap shots put nothing digital to share. Udders were ideal- I do not remember Moet daugthers ?

Has anyone seen/heard anything about the Rosewood cow that Sullivan's bought? I've been trying to watch their catalogs to see what they'd end up doing with her, but I haven't seen anything.

All too common scenario that exposes the fact that there’s a little more going on than meets the eye

That could be 1 theory. Also could be that she just hasn't produced calves with the right "look" for them to market, or they haven't found a sire that really clicks with her, or any number of things.

Edit: I spoke to Les, he said she tested negative for everything before the sale, then when she was sent for flushing she tested positive for something infectious, so they ended up not flushing her. Kind of a sad ordeal.
