I have used the Andis II and the Oster A5 with quite a bit of regularity on cattle and horses, but I was wondering if anyone has used the Wahl Switchblade?  I was reading about it today and it has an adjustable speed control instead of the more common two speed.  I know I really like the variable speed on the block and sheep heads, but was wondering how that works out on the lil clippers?

I have also heard that Andis has a new 5 speed clipper out.  If so, does anyone know of place a person could pick up a pair of those?

I bought the Switchblade model this winter, just to try something differen and replace a pair of Andis 2 speeds.

So far I like them just fine.

I'm not sure the variable speed feature is a real benefit though since I always run them at full speed anyway, why wouldn't you? Or when would you need or want to run them slower than max?

Overall they seem to be pretty good, nice to handle, good blade speed and torque and work well.

My biggest concern with the Switchblade is the power cord/ supply.

I believe they actually operate on 12 volts with a transformer built into the end of the power cord, I can see this getting stepped on and broken and needing replaced, while a regular pair of Andis operating at 110 volts does not have this large plastic piece, so less chance of it getting broken, if the plug breaks on your Andis just replace it with aa $2 one from a hardware stroe and carry on.

My Andis are close to 10 years old and have done a lot of clipping, if the Wahl Switchblade gives as good of service i'll be very pleased.

I attended Chuck McCullough's fitting clinic a few years back and tried the switchblades.  As a woman, I like the feel of them in my hand.  Sometimes the andies blocky shape is hard on my  hands and wrist.  I know its nit-picky but hey!  Once my Andi's wear out, I'm lobbying for a pair of switchblades from hubby (thumbsup)

Is the 5 speed that new little pink one? If so, Sullivans had one sitting out to try at NAILE this fall. When I saw the guy ahead of me running it, it seemed like it would be awesome. Smaller and faster than anything else I've seen for sure, but when I picked it up, I thought it would shake my arm off. Way too much vibration for me. Felt like my hand was asleep

No kiddin!  I was trying to get an email to go through to sullivan to see how much those cost.  The Andis homepage listed them for $354.  That combined with what you said would steer me away from those.  Shoot, just the price alone would do it for me.

Thanks advocate about the Switchblade experience you had.  Looks like I am leaning on the tried and true Andis 2 speeds.
