Would like to hear from those with knowledge of line breeding Irish Whiskey.  I am currently looking at purchasing a cow and just got the copy of her papers.  Her cow and bull are both by Irish Whiskey.
Potential issues?  Known issues?
She's in great shape, just concerned about future breeding risks.

**private message if you would rather.  I know these subjects can be a bit touchy.

Do you know her pha status? That's the only issue I would find out about. Pha carriers don't bother me as long as I'm aware of it.

Yeah to build off what gargan said, only major drawback is PHA possibility of her being a carrier is way up. But if the cow looks good I wouldn't hesitate buying her.

PHA status is unknown (but will be tested if I buy her, just so we know what we're up against)
other than that-- I have not been able to find any other "down side" to her.  Going out to look at her this evening and make a decision.

Spastic paresis and possibly monkey mouth carrier potential.  Can't test for either one though.

ask the buyer to test her.  price should adjust down if she is, up if she isn't, or just negotiate "assume" risk price.

Line bred Whiskey could possibly be a good thing if she does what she is suppose to; Breed back, raise a calf, etc.. I do think if you buy her you will need a strategy on breeding options. Maine genetics can get too close and at times problematic if you want to mate her that way. A truly total outcross bull (Maine or any other breed) would be my personal choice on such a genetic package.

Breed her to darco or a darco son.

Very good choice, IMO.

Forgot his name but that reserve grand fullblood Maine at this years Houston was pretty special. Maybe a little framey for some but I think Fullbloods should have some frame. Might compliment Whiskey genetics.

I also like Dameron's First Class the Angus bull. Those females at the Junior National looked awesome.
