I got a hold of some of that plastic stuff people use on the side of barns to keep the sun out but let air through. I have some areas that let it the sun on the south side. Hope i can get it put up tomarrow. The darker the better i say, just keep those fans humming and watch the hair grow.
From a animal perspective genetics is probly the biggest factor to cattle and the quality and quantity of hair. I dont need much of a barn, just good cattle and at least 100 amps of electricity.
How many times do you rinse your calves a week? how many times do you use soap a week? Is your pens outside or in a barn? How many hours a day do your calves spend in direct sunlight? Are they Licking themselves? do they have lice? there are many factors but answer these questions and we"ll be able to help you more.
The calves are Summer Born's They do not have lice, The pens are outside with a shed. I have broke and washed the calves twice using joy diluted down keeping oil in the hair. I didn't know if the age of the calves had something to do with it or our really dry conditions with no rain.
Well them being outside and having access to direct light during the day doesn't help hair growth for sure, And if there not getting rinsed atleast 3-5 times a week then that could be a problem. They should have sheen put in there hair after rinsing as well. And I would use soap only once a week annd you dont have to dilute joy just dont use it more than once a week and revive them when they get their soap bath.
