I am wanting to flush my best angus cow to make Maintainer females.  She is a MCM Challenger (goes back to 161).  Med yum on frame, thick enough. And sound.  Could stand to st outer up a bit and keep them with some grow as she doesn't transmit as much frame as she would look to.  We are new to the Maine genetics and wanting to start another  breed or line in our herd so our kids don't all show the same thing.

What would anyone recommend to make good females that will make cows?

I would agree with Mark. As well Ceasar is an older bull that can add some grow and keep the look on the calves. I'm expecting Jose and Daddy's Money will both make there mark on the maintainer world too in the near future

Irish whiskey on Angus has been the bread and butter for Griswold's, if u don't mind spending $700 for semen. His son, cervesa has been doing well also. He's much more affordable. Marks suggestions should work also.

We flushed an angus/maine/simmi cross cow to Thriller and they turned out to be GREAT cows. Beautiful utters, sound, easy feeding, doing a great job taking care of their calf. 2 of them have calves on them and they are probably the best calves in the group this year.

FR Magic 179X. Hard to find, but still some straws out there.  You will never find a better bull to produce great 1/2 blood females.

Maybe NAGE Ante Up.  Suh with the edges off

mark and AAOK... Look up DMCC blk Gold 87Y.  430355

Agree with AAOK on FR Magic. Midas is another bull that works. also agree on the caeser reference, Ante Up, GVC Suh, X or X2, GVC Special Delivery also all make fantastic cows. some people may disagree with this, but I personally love the Witch Doctor females. Whiskey genetics work as well. have had luck with Patton and Dubai on angus cows, both affordable whiskey sons.

Do you all have any pics of fr magic? I have 2 straws of him but never have seen him before.

FR Gizmo might work. He is 3/4 maine. Had a bull calf this year, was wanting a heifer.  ;D

Very familiar with the bull.  Back about the early 90s, I still had some Black Gold semen, the original!

i think i have 7 units of black gold.

would only use him on homo solid, homo black cows.

maybe my sooner cow. who knows.

This a son, about 2 years old  has some milk EPD and lo birth weight... Mark is just getting started with him

Couldn't find any Magic pics, but can show you several old calves with major Magic influence.  All of these except the two Simi calves.
