Maine CE Bulls

Just looking to hear suggestions for breeding a group of heifers sired by Whizard. I am thinking of using GVC Twitter, GVC Hawkeye, or BNWZ Jose 703Y. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

I wouldn't consider twitter or Hawkeye calving ease... now special delivery is.... also mercedes benz... also I have seen some really good Rumor Mills and he is safe for heifers... probably all of these I listed would be safe for maternal bred heifers with some size... if you are talking heat wave heifer with a small pelvis and a square head would go with lo bw angus like Homer etc

although I really like I-80 and have and will continue to use him... he is not "super" lo birth weight... I would not use him on heifers with doubtful pelvis and shape

As far as CE Maines go-as a purebred or close-its either Ali-Dirty Harry I-80 or the many sons etc-Money Man, Bouncer-and his sire DMCC Body Builder (1/2 blood maintainer) are about the only other ones I know of-Its like a guaranteed CE Simm-there arent many-and nothing is foolproof-easpecially Carpe Diem-who goes back to Heatwave O0

I could be wrong about this, but I always thought carpe diem was out of Tank which was actually out of Heat Seeker which many years ago actually did throw some bulls used for calving ease purposes like Direct Hit and Fired up.

When it comes to heifers we go by the motto "a calf with breath and legs is better than a big dead one" so we breed most to an angus 1st go round. I do use some Maines on bigger heifers. I will use Gucci. Never had problems calving them, kept a son of his for a herd bull. We tried I80 and have mixed feelings about him. We've had some small one but had some train wrecks too. All calves were good quality but will never breed him to a 1st timer again. We also had to cut one out...lost both heifer and the calf. Couple days later had another heifer bred to him... fearing the worst after the last situation...she spit out a nice little bull calf maybe 70-75 pounds no problem. Just depends on the kind of cow I guess.

decent looking bull, what constitutes the claim of out cross?
sooner, power plant, habanero, the man, pld pursuit, executive, all in just about everything.  the only oddball in his pedigree is the TBS excitement cow, his great grand dam, again, overall, not remotely an outcross.


what's his scrotal at 1 year?
they seem small.

Jose is an outcross to the Ali line of genetics which are so prevalent today.He will work great on I-80 (Ali son) daughters and the I-80 line of genetics. His yearling scrotal was 36 centimeters. He has large, wide and symmetrical testicles.

C.E is just as heavily influenced by the female imo. A lot of the modern Maine bulls can be safely used for calving ease. Some up and coming bulls such as montego bay and Jose look like good options. As well as some of the more proven sires mentioned above. We have a young res pb we are anxiously waiting a first calf crop from on hefiers. If he's as easy as I'm expecting he will go to quarantine to be drawn in the spring. He's very outcross from commercially influenced genetics. An old school stand by I still like for hefiers is pistol Pete always worked for us.

We put Witch Doctor on a handful of Clubby bred heifer two years ago. As a whole the bunch was a little inconsistent. Some really chunky, others a little too racey for me. But as for BW we didn't have any trouble.
