I have a 50% maintainer cow out of I-80. Looking for full Maine bull that will add some size and pretty one up. She's a little coarse made.

This is 100% true, and can bring up several concerns with breeds that allow "breeding up." However, when it comes to the show ring, it comes down to what the paper says. According to the most recent Maine Anjou upgrading chart, a "purebred/fullblood" bred to a 3/4 blood (at most yielding a 7/8, in some cases less) is considered "purebred" and a "purebred" bred to a 1/2 female yields a calf with a pedigree of "75%."BroncoFan said:PB doesn't mean 100% maine. If the cow is exactly 50% maine and the breeder is trying to get to 75% maine then most of the PB Maine bulls out there just won't cut it. I believe a bull can be 87 or 89% Maine and still be considered PB. 89% and 50% only brings the % up to 69.5%. Just my 0.02.
