I am looking for ideas and suggestions.

I have a very good Strictly Business x Angus (6807 breeding) cow that has been working very well for me producing club calves.  She seems to be very consistent having given me excellent steers and heifers in the past.  I have successfully flushed her before also.

I would like to flush her to a proven bull for making good replacement females.  I want to breed her to either an Angus, half blood Simm/Angus or Simmental bull.

Goal is:  To make replacement females.  Add milk, do not increase frame, maybe a tick deeper.  She can do the rest on her own.  She is thick enough, has some hair, great front end, moderate bone,  I need a bull to complement her.  One that is proven complete in his own right.

Here is a list of bulls that I am considering already as well as some I eliminated from using.

Considering using RSVP, Conclusion 437, Climax (question depth and too big framed?), one of the Harrietta x Meyer 734 sons, 3C Karisma, Amazon (not proven?), SAV Net Worth, OCC Legend, OCC Anchor. OCC Joker.

Eliminated Dream On (type), 3 C Macho (too large framed), Maximus (not enough guts), Meyer 734 (guts, milk, frame), Theobald (PHA carrier), DJ Salution (not stout enough).

Please give me your recommendations and hopefully some matings that you have already tried that were successful.

Thanks in advance,

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I like your idea of the Conclusion 437 bull. I don't know much about his progeny though. Another SimAngus bull is SC Mo Magic. He would probably add some depth to the calves.

Thanks for all the replies so far!

I also do not think Star Power would work in this scenario.

I would like a bull that can make her a little deeper and "soften" her up some.

I have a cow that is very similar to the one you are talking exact same pedigree except dam was a fullback.

personally i like the grand master bull shorthorn girl put up.
of your list i would go with the harietta son king meyer.
or as stated occ anchor(he'll take the hair off a yak though)
maybe occ missing link or occ hercules
if you say that salution isnt thick enough ,I would take rsvp out of your running as well too light muscle

Chopper could be a Simmental choice.

If not, then Legend or Anchor.  Legend will definitely make them smaller, anchor will give you a tank (too me, they are the super 'ground sow').  If you like Legend and Emblazon, OCC Next Step will give you good cows that are a stitch bigger than Legend cattle.  I have some.  Beautiful udders, great cows as young cows, they are only coming 3s right now.

We have been very pleased with our Legends and Anchors, they have decent hair for an Angus, but both can tend to get kind of sloppy necked, they do stay on the moderate, soggy side and make great replacements.

I'm not a huge Chopper fan.  Plus, he is definately not a proven sire of maternal genetics because of his age, he is too young.

What are everyone's position on...Who is the best Meyer 734 x Harrietta son?

The OCC cattle are extremely functional and have an awesome look, but they suck all the frame out of them.  I don't care what they say, it takes a big cow to make the really good ones.  I'd probably look at some of the SAV angus bulls, they grow and still have a good look and plenty of rib.

The idea of big framed cow's is what it takes to have those really great calves is plumb silly.Evidently, other than your own,you probably haven't seen Bruce and Justin Glovers cows orBob May's or Dan May's cows,or even Kroupa's? Ask all of those guys and they will tell you that a 51-52 inch 1350-1400lb. cow is ideal for club calf momma's. They are easier keepin' and the calves are not near as course lookin. They do have to have a good size pelvis area of course. That usually comes after their first natural calf..... The OCC cows are perfect in most scenario's,not all though..............As far as using Simmental Influence for makin club calf cow replacements,I like the Aftershock cattle although you get a crazy sometimes. I think if you use Maximus you will need to breed him to your deepest ribbed cows and you will be in bussiness. I reluctantly used him and boy am I damn glad I did. Plenty of rib shape and the prettiest fronted, most stylish heifers I ever raised. The only other bull that has done wonders for club calf motherhood is S.O.S. The Sandeens have used him and DJSalution,Maximus, then crossing him back on the Maximus and Salution calves. It must work, as in my humble opinion, they have the greatest half blood cattle anywhere.

How about SAV Final Answer?  He is proven and I have heard alot of good things about him, just not concerning being the sire of club calf mama's.  Anyone have any personal experience with him, or seen crossbred cattle out of him?
