None of my comments were intended to bash or praise any one particular individual. I am 56 years old and still believe that a man's word is his bond and a handshake is still binding. Call it "old school" or whatever you choose but customer service and being treated like you are significant is something that is still highly valued by many Americans. I predict that if all bull owners/ semen suppliers were honest and had the ability to track the end user. The total amount of semen sold to individuals that ordered 50 or less straws/ year would far exceed the total of those over 50. I do understand that your original post was a request for information/ clarification. If you will check I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago. I just thought it was a good opportunity to weigh in on doing business. I have made some of the same mistakes! Back in the late 70s and 80s I was raising purebred Duroc seedstock. I had big dreams of selling a few top breeders a boar for big money and I struggled. It wasn't till I had a conversation with an older breeder that I began to see things differently. He said basically " I sell 200 purebred boars / year to commercial producers for $300.00 each. How long do you think it is going to take you to sell a $60,000.00 boar?" You can go from being on top of your game one day to struggling the next or "from the penthouse to the outhouse" very quick. During those good times you need be building a customer base that will take you through the bad times and there will be bad times, there always are. Again, I do understand the intent of the original post. Just sharing some thoughts that may help someone along the way.
