This will keep us from ever stopping there again, even for a drink.

The original message is from the Texas Cattle Feeders Association American cattle producers are very passionate about this.  McDonald's claims that there is not enough beef in the USA to support their restaurants. Well, we know that is not so. Our opinion is they are looking to save money at our expense. The sad thing of it is that the people of the USA are the ones who made McDonald's successful in the first place, but we are not good enough to provide beef. We personally are no longer eating at McDonald's, which I am sure does not make an impact, but if we pass the word around maybe there will be an impact felt. All Americans that sell cows at a livestock auction barn had to sign a paper stating that we do NOT EVER feed our cows any part of another cow.  South Americans are not required to do this as of yet.  McDonald's has announced that they are going to start importing much of their beef from South America. The problem is that South Americans aren't under the same regulations as American beef producers, and the regulations they have are loosely controlled.  They can spray numerous pesticides on their pastures that have been banned here at home because of residues found in the beef.  They can also use various hormones and growth regulators that we can't.  The American public needs to be aware of this problem and that they may be putting themselves at risk from now on by eating at good old McDonald's.  American ranchers raise the highest quality beef in the world and this is what Americans deserve to eat.  Not beef from countries where quality is loosely controlled. Therefore, I am proposing a boycott of McDonald's until they see the light.  I'm sorry but everything is not always about the bottom line, and when it comes to jeopardizing my family's health, that is where I draw the line.I am sending this note to about thirty people.  Acting together we can make a difference.  If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

This first circulated 4 or 5 years ago and I traveled the state of New Mexico discussing this with local breeders and producer groups.  This chain email gained steam when the gentlemen from Texas a&m received this information and accidentally attached his signature when forwarding it to a colleague to see if he had heard anything about this.  This gentlemen from Texas A&M has gone on record stating such.  McDonald's never has imported any beef from South America period.  McDonald's did run a small test in about 200 stores during the early 2000's with New Zealand beef to determine if consumers preferred the taste of the grass fed beef to the grain fed beef of the United States.  This was also during the time of herd rebuilding and there was a drastic shortage of cutter and canner cows. This only lasted a few months and has since ended and McDonald's serves only US produced beef inside it's stores states side.  McDonald's has never announced that they are going to import beef from South America, this is just flat false.  My family has owned and operated McDonald's re staraunts for the past 33 years and continue to be proud supporters of US agriculture's number one consumer McDonald's!

I lost my phone in a Wendy's on the way to Denver in the SW corner of Iowa.  We had to turn around with the cattle trailer to go back to get it like 5 miles later lol.

Thanks for posting that link Jason.  This is the third time I have recieved this e-mail in some shape or form in the last 24 hours and it's amazing how time flies.  I had no clue it was all the way back in 02 when this whole deal started.

Eric,
they are no longer importing beef from new zealand or Australia, it was a small test 7 or so years ago.  There are many other places that import beef that don't even tell you about it.  There also when this test was ran a shortage of cutter and canner cows, the ones we eat for hamburger, because the us was in a cycle of herd rebuilding.  I can send you the data if you would like to see it.

I recieved this email from an adult who I thought was a reputable source. So I passed it on, a few days later I recieved another email telling that it was a hoax chain email that resurfaced every so often. Don't know what to think, but I think I'll do my own research before passing anything else along that comes my way.
