I just talked to Nicole again and told her some of our ideas.  She's spending the day with Mark on Tuesday and will throw some ideas at him.  I'm going to go to the services ect.  I also am going to try to go to the farm on Thursday and see Mark.  I'll throw some ideas at him if he's up to it and get ideas from him.  Juli said she'd take care of the legal fees ect. if we do a scholarship...or I should say she volunteered Brad.

We'll make something work.  I've got the wheels in my head turning.  Deep down in my heart I have to do something in memory of her.

When something is finalized I would gladly help. Let me know where I can send a check and consider it done.

I like the idea of a scholarship, but I know little about how they would work. The questions that come to mind are (1) how much would be awarded each year (2) how many years could it be continued for. If a scholarship is only going to be given for one or two years I think there may be a long term memorium that may be a more fitting tribute. As I said, I know less than nothing as to how these things are set up, but I do think that I would favor something that lasts more than a year or two.

Should the Steerplanet family be sending flowers ( or something else)to her funeral ?? Just a thought.

We could possibly have a memorial and a scholarship. I don't know about how much for the scholarship, but, ideally, we would keep it going every year because Cathy deserves that sort of recognition.

If you'd like any help or  ideas on a scholarship program I'd be willing to help.   I have served as a trustee for a couple of scholarship programs for several years.  I also served as our school board president for several years and our students benefit from probably more scholarships per capita than any school in Iowa.   I'm sure there may be others on SP who have served in similar capacities as well.

That's fantastic. We'll need your help.

I don't know if it would be possible, but if SP does a scholarship for Red, it would need to be one that could be sustainable.  I would think that taking the proceeds of one of the adds on here put it into a scholarship fund  for one or two deserving youth weather it is someone from here or whatever I don't know.  That would be a great way to give a substantial scholarship for someone and remember what Red did for everyone.

I agree with Matt, if it's a scholarship, it needs to be big enough to be self sustaining.

Another thought that's been floating in my mind.. what about a class or award sponser at the  Maine Jr. Nat'l or NAILE or whatever other show she would have liked to support.

I'll help out in any way that I can.  I do agree that if a scholarship, it needs to be sustainable for years, rather that a one time shot.  I'm 26, with no kids, but I hope that my kids and my grandkids both have the opportunity to fill out applications for the Cathy "RED" Billenstein Memorial Scholarship.

Let's make this work!

Before we do anything I just want to make sure that Cathy's family approves of the idea.

Yes, I would want it make it annual, no better way to keep her legacy alive her on the planet.

I guess we would need to form a committee to knock out all the details to make this work.  Set an amount to give away, store excess funds for the following year, and have a treasurer preside over the account.

Why don't we wait until we hear back from Gidget and then go from there.

How about a Jackpot show in her name.  It can be in her home state or a more steerplanet centralize location.  As I understood,She always loved to meet fellow Steer Planeteers at shows.  I bet she would love if every year, Steer Planeteers would meet and revive her spirit and joy.  She loved cattle, children, and socializin.  You could even have Woody as special guest.  Just an idea.

Just brainstorming, but if the SP calf sale(s) ever come together perhaps a percentage of the sale(s) could be put in a "Red" scholarship fund.    Just a thought!!
