We have a blue roan spring 2011 heifer  that is registered 31% shorthorn plus. We plan on selling her as a bred in our fall sale. Would you  more intrigued if she was bred to northern improvement  out Jakes proud jazz?

Depends of the heifer. If shes a big girl, jpj; more moderate, northern improvement. If I were a SH person, possibly JPJ b/c the calf will be a higher % (over 1/2).

Personally-I would try Jakes Blue Moon or RS After hours-Blue Moon is the Blue Roan on several threads here-You have an After Hours daughter-who might be a little bold in her shoulder-but the three I had-were very moderate at birth and pretty fronted,-and there have been a bunch the same way at K-Kim-If she wasnt big at birth(low Bw genetics) hed be ok-Im sure Jakes Blue Moon  is hiefer safe. This blue roan heifer is actually out of my After Hours Shorthorn. She was the After Hour's first calf so she did have a low BW. Her sire is a easy calving PB Angus Bull, and she is VERY deep but is lacking rear and is a little junky up front in her neck.

Someone above mentioned getting her calf over 50% Shorthorn.

Isn't that the minimum to show Short Plus at a national show?

Might make the calf more marketable.

Good luck-
