Hi I am new to showing heifers and have always shown steers in the past. I just bought this heifer and am looking for a cost effective way to feed her.

Probably market right now but we will see how she will develop and possibly breed her and show her as breeding in the summer

They take more management when feeding, they can get fat on you overnight it seems like. I would find a good developer feed with a protein % over 14, and feed her 2 percent of her body weight to start. Just keep an I on her and adjust the feed according to how she is developing.

When is your fair? She does not look fat now, With heifers you just need to stay on top, adjusting her feed if she starts to bloom to soon, you can do that by cutting her feed ration in half and adding a filler to make up for it for a short time and then put her back on full feed again. You need to manage her for your end result, unlike as steer where you can push and back off at the end, you need to feed them so they peek just when you need her to. The Hi noon heifer feed might just be the ticket, as she gets closer and needs to put on fat you can change to a finisher or just adjust the fat content with stabilized rice bran the last few months.
