Does anyone know anyone who has Buster 14K semen for sale in the US?  I have a friend who is interested and has been unsuccessful in his search.

I looked a couple years ago and asked around and was also unsuccessful. Just bought some Buster 2nd, although I don't like him as well as his dad.

14k's picture is impressive I've never seen any calves by him though. Does he sure better than the 2nd had a couple calves by him and they weren't real impressive but they were out of pretty common cows.

I have been searching for Muridale Buster 14K semen for awhile also.  I have posted on here over the years with no luck.  I am guessing that the few who still have some are hanging on pretty tight.  I do have a few embryos left sired by 14K and my Creole cow.  I am really hoping that my next herd bull is one of the 14K embryos I have due this spring!!!
I have also used Buster 2nd.  I would recommend him for use on heifers-- I have had all low birthweights with him.  I agree the calves haven't had the punch that 14K calves had.
My son had an awesome 14K steer in 2009 for our county fair.  He beat out several "clubby" calves and also was a rate of gain winner.

Again-- I would pay top dollar for some 14K semen if anyone has some!

If you can't find Buster 14K semen, I would recommend you use Uluru's Buster 6T. He was a very good bull ! Very thick, soft and moderate. He is probably one of the "sleepers" in the breed right now. If you want to talk with someone who used him, check with Tim Loudon at Creston, IA. He used 6T on a set of black Maine cows and the calves were phenomenal. Most were beautiful blues and they were very competitive. They looked like very sound made clubby calves!

Buster 14K is a good breeding bull, and 6T is also. Don't overlook him! In fact he probably gives his sire some competition as to which is the best breeding bull.

I'm sure he's a good bull in his own right but I have no interest in incorporating the bottom side of 6T's pedigree into my herd.  If no 14k semen is around, there's bound to be some more standout 69F sons, right?

xbar... I'm not sure what you don't like in the bottom side of 6T's pedigree. The dam of 6T was a beautiful cow and she was one of Bob's best breeding cows. The Renosa herd was one of the real gems here in Saskatchewan and was owned by George Cleggett. George passed away a couple years ago. He was a true Breeder's breeder. He bought the best bulls he could find. The Tonguish Speedboat bull bred extremely well for him. He was a very impressive bull and he bred that into his offspring.

'beautiful, best breeding, real gems, best, bred well, impressive'-  I don't know about you, but these descriptors don't really help me visualize a cow in terms of her makeup.

I prefer the type of cattle on the top side.  You're as versed as anyone on here on pedigrees.  You know the bottom side is a very different type of cattle.  Just look through the pedigree: SS American Pride 906, Tonquish Speedboat, Speedway 27X w/ a 116lb bw!!  There's just something about compounding -7 CE and +7 BWs that I don't care much for.

Bob's 6T is a good bull !

Semen "hoarders" you might check with :

Bob Miller, Millvale Farms North Dakota

Josh Kastel, Michigan www.kastelshowcattle.com

Kevin Vaith, South Dakota

Here's another idea:

We purchased a flush on Buster's dam the spring of 2005?- she froze over 20 grade one's. We sold 2 packages in our fall sale and 9 embryos to Leveldale Farms.... She was flushed to Alta Cedar Ultimate 130K. I gave Muri's a package too.  Check for daughters in production or sons ?  She was THC as her son Buster 14K tested negative for TH.

Some facts about 6T's grand dam and dam

I deal with facts and not Expectedpds although I very much do support the EPD program
I am conservative by nature and I will be honest when I saw 1R with all the chrome I said to my cousin I think I will ship her.
Some how she remained as a replacement heifer - good luck or bad management just the facts.

5K's calves
2003  heifer by SS american Pride  BW ?
2004 bull by SS american Pride  BW ?
2005 heifer by SS American Pride  BW ?  Year I bought her.  Renosa Choice 1R  Buster 6T's dam BW ?
2006 first year I owned 5K, Bull calf  by Wolf Willow Rocky a Leroy son. BW 97 lbs
2007 heifer by Red Rose Gold Spear Ruffian    BW 109 lbs
2009 Twins by Creekside Standoff      Bull calf BW 79 lbs  Heifer BW 70 lbs
2010 Open I shipped her -  no calf - no stay around

1R's calves
2007 bull calf Buster 6T by Buster 14K    BW 89 lbs
2008 bull calf Uluru Ulysses sold to O'dale farms, See his calves in this years Iowa sale  BW 107lbs
2009 Heifer by Ruffian  BW 122 lbs      shipped
2010 Heifer by Foxwillow Sovereign 108 lbs    shipped
2011 Heifer by Ruffian 90 lbs retained
2012 no calf.  1R died of hardware

As you can see Xbar has a good point on the bottom side.

All I can say is that all who have purchased semen on Buster 6T and our owners have not had any calving problems with him and his calves have all been about 90 lbs or less

Just the facts guys.

I thank all of you who have supported us in our progress with Buster 6T.
I think he is/was a good bull.  www.shorthorns.ca

Thanks for the mention Sue but I am out.  I used the last of what I had for flushes on Tangerine and Golden Lace.

If none is avail in US, flush something up there and ship embryos down.

It may have changed, but the last time I checked the embryo's are only exportable if exportable semen is used.  It would be something to check more into before going all in.

I spoke to Scot from Muridale in regards to getting some 14K semen, he said he didn't have any left. He noted that he really regretted not drawing this bull more. I think to find semen on this guy you'll have to do a lot of sweet talking to the right people that may have a few straws of him left.  <beer>

With the depth of his programme, why don't you ask him for recommendations in the traits you are targetting?  I have seen some excellent, masculine, red bulls on SP from his herd.  The most recent was on the Shorthorn x angus heifer thread.  With masculine, well muscled bulls like that, from what seems to be a fairly tightly bred herd, what more do you want?

Einomor Ideal 69F was born in 1996. We used as son that had incredible calving ease but we never collected him. (Eionmor Ideal 61M born 2002, CE 6.1 BW -2.2 CE$ 31.21/15
$F% 22.04/30 $BMI/%28.20/15) There may be some Ideal 69F semen around but there are some good linebred descendants like Eionmor Ideal 82T used at Eionmor until this year and now at Hatfield Shorthorns in Manitoba. I think Hatfield has collected him for in herd use. We bought a cow in the Eionmor dispersal bred to 82T and a daughter of him in their spring sale. This is definitely a bull that should be collected before it's too late as he is 7 years old now.
