sounds to me like some of you folks are chasing your tail.  I've never eaten a heavily marbled steak that wasn't tender.

I had heard at the time that the old Gene star test wasn't even applicable for shorthorns, despite SH breeders continuing to send in samples giving them free money.

I was at Loving sale in 2012 or so and Merle Welch bought both of the high selling bulls: One for like 13 grand the other 6 or 8 ish.  j
Few years later I got a call seeing if I were interested in those two bulls.  Apparently they had the bulls tested through Gene star and they did poorly so the bulls got little to no use. I was heavy on bulls at the time so didn't buy them but whoever did got a steal as they weren't asking much for them at that point. Weird situation altogether.  I just can't imagine dropping 20 grand on two bulls, and then allowing a 3rd party, whose science is questionable at best, to dictate breeding decisions to the point that you don't even use those bulls

I believe the bulls were originally purchased with the intent on selling semen since the buyer had few if any cows.  Sometimes things don't work out as planned.

:)

peer review.  there is currently NO process to independently verify tenderness. that's why there is a 1 year backlog on Piedmontese bulls right now. yeah, they don't marble even remotely, but they are really tender. the filet is probably almost too tender for some.

So, for tenderness and marbling, any suggestion for molecular markers?
Igenity is a good source?
Will analise some animals and wish not expend time and money on non accurate tests.

nothing works.

there is NO independent verification.

retained ownership is the best way to get marbling data.

tenderness testing is a joke.

Are you saying Dr. Allen Williams ultrasound program does not work?  He claims 85% accuracy?
