My freak of nature!

I've been debating for a long time whether or not to post these pictures. I finally decided to becaue it was just one of those freak things that happens once in a lifetime. The calf was born last October and it truly was a sight to see. We reported it to the proper sources and the experts called it a case of identical twins gone wrong. We had to put the calf down later in the day because obviously it couldn't nurse.

  Our neighbor had a 2 in one born a few years ago. The calf had a extra tail and leg appearing to come up out of it's back. Thay fed that one on out. They have had 2 different sets of quads over the years also.

I'm seriously not kidding we had a calf exactly like that about 10 years ago... Had like 3 lower jaws, and 3 tonges...  Very interesting.. Don't think I can find a picture though...  Our's lived about a month, until it got "lead" poisoning.  Woulda lived longer, but we couldn't stand looking at it.  When the calf was hanging out, we could see 2 tonges, and thought, o boy, got two calves coming at same time head first.. instead it was that freaky thing...  Of course had to pull it, head first.

This calf was out of a first calf heifer and amazingly didn't have to pull it.

We had one with two heads and one body once now that was freaky, Got a pic somewhere put that was before digital cameras

We had a full Irish heifer several years ago, that was intensely inbred. She had a 5th leg dangling out of her rump. She lived fine but it looked funny when she ran as the leg just flopped there. I often wondered if this was a defect resulting from the inbreeding in her background, or if it was just a normally occuring defect.

About this same time, we had a calf out of a cow we purchased in Northern Ontario. We had it here for a couple years.It had high placed eyes and when it ran it ran like a moose does ie: both legs on each side forward and back together. Really weird looking to see. I happened to mention this weird animal to a vet at the vet college at the U of S, and he became very interested in it. When he saw it, he said he was almost positive that it was a cross between a cow and a moose. I was supposed to take it to the Uof S for some genetic testing and further research. A few days later I went into the pasture to bring it up to the yard so I could load it. All I found was a pile of bones. It had died and the coyotes had cleaned it up. Guess we will never know for sure.

Should've stuffed it and sold it for big money! I was disappointed ours didn't go all the way for two heads.

I went with a friend yesterday to meet a man who raised camels. He has all sorts of other animals, but he showed us this calf in his field. It has to sets of hooves on its back legs. So it has a total of 6 hooves.

So sorry to hear that, it is always disappointing to end up with a problem.  We used to raise pigs and had one with the double hooves, we froze them when we butchered him.
