My Turn

I am really pleased with my first My Turn.  She is feminine but thick, very correct, choke necked, and hairy.  I'd take a bunch of these. 

80lb birth weight.

The size deal was people loved them as calves but used them later as show steers and never could get them to weigh over 1250-pounds,most of the time not 1150 and these people had fed quite a few ....

I really have a hard time believing that also.  All the My Turns I have seen have been more than adequate size (the right size in my opinion, and I like them bigger than most clubbie guys).  I have a really good My Turn X Grizz heifer, he is really winning me over.

I apolygize for saying anything but these people used a lot of him and are connected with one of the guys that sell a lot of them....I have quite a few Charx coming and hope I'm wrong ,got one older black steer in Iowa .... Maybe the guy just used the wrong cows....

I used MT this year but she didn't stick very disappointed. But theres this year.

  I have 2 MT's on the ground. One out of a 3/4 Angus x 1/4 Maine and the other out of  a Dr. Who cow. They were 110# and 100# at birth. The one out of the Angus cow is very sound with a lot of bone and big topped. The Dr. Who is very stout but to straight on the hind legs. {the calf got this from the cow} Both have good hair. I'm still waiting on a My Turn out of a Full Flush x Charolais. I will try to post pictures later.

Birth weight wise I have had no problems with My Turn and as far as  that goes no bulls that I used except my first year my people who calved out Heat Wave calves
didn't want any more of them....No wrecks or lost calves they just wondered if their recept cows would walk normal again...As far as the finishing weight I guess I just thought you should maybe use something with more growth and thats why I used Char cows and these calves show more depth and thickness ...

You know I should just leave this alone, but it just bugs the crap out of me that a guy needs to feel like he needs to apologize for giving an honest opinion about his experience and thoughts of what he saw in a sires calves. I just finished reading a thread that Freddy put up about a couple of his own calves and it is refreshing to read his real world critic of his own calves's weaknesses. I for one like to hear the damn truth once in awhile. I could go on, but have probably said too much already.

Freddy.....this REALLY surprises me.  I  have told people to watch the growth on the calves, and NOT to use him on too big of a cow.  I'm not doubting or questioning you one bit, but was the ones that didn't get big enough bred similar, or random dams?

Birth weight on the My Turns is generally NO problem at all and ALL mine have been unassisted.  However, if there is some birth weight history on the dam side, I have heard of a bigger one, but definitely NOT big numbers as a norm.

The one thing that My Turn does that most don't is STAMP that LOOK in every calf.  It still amazes me at his consistency in doing that.  He's not perfect by no means, but he does have his place.

The cow pictured above is precisely the kind I like to use him on.  Smaller, soft made cows with plenty of flex and body.

I went ahead and emailed a ranch that raised/sold quite a few my turns and the guys response was that they are all in the 80lbs-90 birthweight and he highly recommended using him. I have a couple of cows like that one that I would like to use him on so that makes me relieved to hear that. She had twins this year so two MY heifers next year would be awesome

Hamilton's here locally are part owner of him, and to my knowledge they have no sexed semen.  If they don't have it there likely isn't any to get.

This is my first My Turn calf. Birthweight was 75#. Out of a Full Flush x Meyer 734 cow. This guy gets thicker each day. He definitely has a cool look.

He is cool!!! This is the cow I want a heifer out of. She is 13 (I want to replace her eventually). I think I am going to just take my chances with her and use regular semen.

Very nice cow ,I'm in the same fix have a cow need a heifer out of an she is getting some age...

She has thrown steers the last 4 years and the one heifer she did throw was out of this horrible simmental bull herd sire we used (we were desperate, one of our bulls got broken in a bull fight so we bought this guy as a last resort) and she pointed east and west when she stood............so she went on the truck. Big heifer though, she would make a good terminal heifer.
