OK so my daughter and I hauled cows all day and in doing so had a lot of time to talk and the subject of shopping came up as she is allowed to spend some of her steer money on school clothes. In doing it this way  I have little say in what she can buy as it is her hard earned money. Well she wants a purse. I have never owned one in my life so I am not in the loop if this is something a 12 year old girl needs or is using these days. Can she get one or two? Help Frostie

My 12 year old and 10 year old girls both have a couple of purses, they have nothing important in them and carry them once in a while but certainly not on a regular basis...more of a fun thing for them than anything else.

My daughter was a girlie girl. She had a ton of little purses when she was younger. Take her someplace inexpensive and let her get one or two.

You should let her get one or two. I would go to gordmans and let her pick one out they are not that expensive. Since she is 12 i would let her get one because she can put the ''stuff she uses in it''. And its her money not yours so you shouldn't care as long as its not over $50.00. Hope she finds one she likes!  :)

Yes, I would let her get a purse. At her age "girl" things start happening, and a purse gives them a place to carry supplies, if you get what I mean!

Shopping with my 14 yr old daughter is TRAUMA for me.  She can shop ALL DAY LONG!!!!!

Yes, it seems that having a purse is a big deal in school these days.  Oh and it has to be just the right one so we look and look and look some more and then go back and buy the first one she looked at that day.  There is not a face in our faces to describe how I look after an afternoon shopping excursion with her.

Norma,

When I was a young girl your daughter's age, an older couple from Texas bought the neighboring ranch.  I idolized the woman because she was my "ideal cowgirl"!  She said that any ranch woman worth their salt needed only 3 things:  a sharp pocket knife in one front pocket and a lipstick and a hankie in the other!!!

Now times have changed.  If I didnt have a purse, where would I keep my pocket knife, pliers, chapstick, shop towels, check book, calculator, and of course bandaids?!?!? ???

(Also the economy sized bottle of Extra strength Tylenol?)

I imagine that your trauma is my equivalent of trying to find my boys the "right" pair of sport shoes......"no, those are running shoes, those look too wimpy, those look to heavy, those look too weird, etc, etc, etc."    I am willing to bet you can find the right fashion accessory purse before my clodhoppers could pick out tennyrunners.  Have fun......and remember your credit card...haha

Well I have the sharp knife in the pocket but never wore lipstick in my life. Tried lipgloss once for a friends wedding. She had to buy it just for me. I bet I still have it somewhere. Only wore it for the great day.
As far as my credit card, dont have one of those either, and like a I said it is her dime so I cant say she cant have one, just wanted to make sure it was necessary for a young lady.
I hate shopping and worse yet where I dont have the control. Ill let you know how we do.
