What bulls, cows or anything was good in Louisville. Nobody is talkin about it so I was curious. heifer calf futurity? Bull show? Female show? Most beer drank or most cattle clipped?

CYT had the top selling Futurity heifer at around 12,000.  The CYT heifer that won the open show in Louisville last year as a calf won the junior show on Sunday.  We had to leave before the conclusion of Monday's show and I haven't researched the winners of the open heifer show.  Sullivans had the champion bull on a young calf and Cates had reserve on another calf.  For the most part the bull show was very good, more good older bulls all the time.  I was not so impressed with some of the younger bull calves, just my opinion.

What about the committe meetings. EPD change up? Wouldn't the one deal change the epd on the timeline bull?

Does anyone know what the impact on the average epd would be when they remove those herds.? I guess it depends on the size of the herds.

AJ I wear progressive glasses and I am having a tough time reading between the lines.

Matt... which bull was that? I saw a couple of very good bulls but they definitely weren't the ones that won the show. The bulls that won are OK but I thought there were some other bulls that were better and could maybe advance the breed a little more. Guess this is another example of how we all see things a little differently.

I guess if I was to pick a female winner, I would have had to use Vogel's white heifer by Hi-View Ace of Diamonds. She is simply awesome! Tremendous capacity and natural thickness. Massive in her make-up yet still looks like a cow. I watched her walk down the aisle, and she is free moving, and really strides out when she is on the move. She looks very maternal. The Maxa Rosa female that won is also powerful, but in my opinion she would have looked pretty good standing in the second hole beside the Vogel heifer.

Overall, the quality of the show was simply overwhelming. I don't think I am wearing rose colored glasses when I say that the Shorthorn barn had the most depth of quality in the entire show. I saw a Simmy heifer that sold for $40,000 this fall, and I doubt if she could have stood mid class in the Shorthorn show. There were outstanding cattle in every breed, but the Shorty deal was overpowering. I even found a couple Red Poll cows that I would love to clone. They were flat good!

I thought Martindell Farms bull " Sull Final Answer" looked great. He sure had a lot of people looking at him. I got some semen on him to use.

I thought he was a good looking bull too.  His calves in the KY Bluegrass Sale were really nice.

I will agree with you on the Leemon's LSF Step It Up bull. When I arrived at the Shorthorn barn, the very first person I happened to see was Scott Leemon. He said to me, that he wanted me to stop and see a bull he had in his string. I asked if he had time to show him to me right then, and we went to his stall. I purchased a syndicate interest in him on the spot. I think this is the first time in my life that I bought a piece of the very first animal I saw at a show or sale. I am pretty excited about this bull. I know that if I had a pen of bulls that looked like him, they would sell like hotcakes. He is an outcross pedigree with no Trump, and I think he will get even better with time.

He is a dark cherry red color, has a smooth polled head that is small and indicates that he could be a calving ease sire. He is an August yearling and has a 17.1 inch ribeye. He has tremendous structural soundness and he moves like a cat. His testicles are large, well formed  and hang straight. His feet are well formed and he has a dark hoof ( which I like). As Kamerkat mentioned, he is not fat and he has a pile of eye appeal. While his EPDs don't suggest super easy calving, he had an actual birth weight in the mid 80s ( I think Scott said he was 84 lbs).

That bull also lives about 3 miles from our farm  ;)  Hopefully I'll get to see him a few more times this winter.
