Native calf...just a picture of whats new

The DMH Cherry 2 cow had a red heifer calf. Considering her move and the winter she is doing well for a thirteen year old. This is the cow that traveled north with her. This cow CSB Rosabell 2nd is bred to DMH Easy Leader 20-13 pictured. The roan bull is her sire.

Have you been hit by these late season storms?

My Cherry heifer is bagging up. Looks like a real pretty udder so far. The sire of the calf is DMH Felix 2019. From what I see the Leader x Haumont crosses are complementary for adding some muscle and volume to the dual type, bringing frame size down a notch and retaining milk and all around functional maternal traits. An old idea that still works.

I know the breeders in Canada are aware of them but did anyone else on here realize the impact the bulls like Deertrail Goliath, Wallstreet, or Powerhouse ( Divdend Son ) had ? They were all out of Marvel cows going back to The Haumont and THICK dual Shorthorn cows that dont really exist like they did then HOW DO I KNOW THIS ?-I was showing Scotch type Shorthorns from 1960. Aberfeldy and some Scottsdale blood  and direct Scottish breeding like Saulton Northstar. Even then the highest gaining bulls of any breed in the US were coming from the VA bull test-And they all went back to the BIG dual cattle where the breeders refsed to breed belt buckle cattle and in some herds like the long gone Lucy herd in Warrenton VA Area -Had basically been around at that time since the turn of the century. As big as Deertrail Goliath was-Not that many calves were 8 frame monsters  He followed the cow. An early CE bull in the 90s was Byland BUD LIGHT-I saw his dam and they later put her on a sale. She was very moderate and wide as a barn with the thick extreme square butt and hip THAT ONLY IRISH BLOOD SEEMS TO PRODUCE ANYMORE  O0

My Cherry heifer lost her calf. I saved the heifer but it was not good. The calf was way too big and Felix went into the freezer over it. She did breed right back so she is a strong and fertile little cow. Better news is the roan heifer calf by What A Surprise is growing well and her dam, CSB Maid of Promise E5 is looking so good.

Mark, to what you were saying about Scotch and Dual..this E5 cow is the result of putting Leader genetics, including Leader 21, and Weston Trademark 3rd on Haumont dual females. I'd say 3/4 of the pedigree is Haumont.
