Put them in a solid round pen with another calm calf. Get a real halter with a chain that is meant to be left on and let them drag a rope that is longer than the pen is wide so that he can't ge away. Then when you start to work on him you can start by putting him in a heavy duty chute ( not a trim chute), when he is in there just squeeze him down and start brushing him all over. Then you can start trying to lead him in the round pen just have two strong guys on the rope and one to move him ahead if he stops. If he's going crazy just be persistent, he can't get away and sooner or later he will give up.

I had a steer kick his foot right through a peice of tin on the windbreak and die from the loss of blood, then I had to train my extra that had never had a halter put on him. So there I was with two weeks and a 1300 pound calf. Thats when I became thankful for my dads powerstroke and a 35 foot rope, they can't do much but follow. Everyone should have to try that.
