Our embryologist is very busy this time of year as most are I'm sure so we set up several recips and plan it so that we can have a scheduled day to put them in.  We are suposed to put CIDRs in tomarrow morning,  One of the cows that we wanted to use just came into standing heat this morning.  Can you put a CIDR in her tomorrow morning and pull it in a week and give a shot of Lut and expect her to come right back in?

Thanks,

Terry can answer this better than I could, but since she came into heat today, she will not need a CIDR and you will get no benefit from putting a CIDR into her.  However, it would be ideal if you could wait until day 10, but there is a good chance that she will come back in to heat.  Terry, please correct me if I'm wrong!  Dr. Greiger pounded this stuff into our heads and I've taken it home and put it to work and I've had them recycle at day 7 and 8.

Tony -- the reason a Cidr will work as good as it does, it beause it increases the systemic Progesterone levels, warding off any high level of Estrogren, and forcing the system to HOLD a CL longer than normal. In your case here, she will grow a CL normally any way in 7 days, and the Cidr will only help her make a good one.

Rule of thunmb -- a cow must be at least 6-7 days past her normal heat to be viable for a recycle. No progesterone, no heat from prostoglandins.

If you used the Gnrh - Cidr - Prostoglandin program, the Gnrh will make sure she ovulated on time, then the whole system is reset.

Normally speaking -- Jill is right -- most cows might not work well by re-shooting in 7 days past her natrual heat -- some do. The Cidr will deffinately help get that done, and you should be OK to go.

You are right -- we are all busy now -- so timing is everything -- we just can't have a mix up once things are scheduled, simply no time to fit it in later once the calender is full! Best of luck up there --

Terry

PS -- as I was typing this -- the new post came in from Diamond S -- yes that is also correct -- assuming she ovulatres on time with no hold ups -- you MAY be alright to not put in a Cidr and just give her a shot wit hthe rest. Keep this in mind however -- important -- Non Cidr implanted cows will take close to 72 hours to cycle off of one shot of Lut -- Cidr cows will cycle in 48 hours +/-. That means you will need to give her a shot one day earlier than the rest -- and if you do, she will only be 6 days from heat. She may not have had enough time to build a good CL and thus -- won't regress it and come back for you!! Don't you love technology???
