I have a friend that uses the baby names books that you can get at WalMart.  One other thing he does that I thought was kind of cool is to use the same letter as the cattle are tatooed with.  For instance the letter W is the Simmental letter for 09 so all his heifer calf names will start with W.  If you want to keep it simple a lot of people just use their prefix along with the sires name and the tatoo.  For instance BCC Ms Arapahoe Gold W23.

I use the letter system too. Like black cows said, this year is W, so I'll use names that start with W. Sometimes I use the sires name.

If you have some heifers you could give them the same name as the dam just give the calf a different tattoo number. Makes it a little easier if you have a hard time figuring out a name.

LOL, Great idea!  If you have one that's free spirited and a little rank you might consider calling him FARWEST!  <party> <party> <party>

I have always loved music.  I always have asked myself, if I was a major league relief pitcher, what song would I loved to be introduced to in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs and bases full.  Trevor Hoffman from San Diego Padres always played Hells Bells.  Just the loud ring of the bells was intimidating to batters.  I use the same approach with steers.  Something intimidating.  Names we have used are Dr. Feelgood, Manson (Marilyn Manson), Dr. Love,  Heifers, I like songs with Girly names that catch my eye (ears).  Names I have used are Foxy Lady (Jimi Hendrix), & Suzie Q (CCR).  Other names we have used are Hammer.  Like "Its Hammer time", or "Drop the Hammer".  Mr. Money Bags.  The steer had a huge hip that carried down to his round.  From behind he looked like a kid with two pockets full of quaters.  The next steer will be named "Iceman" like Chuck Liddell from the UFC.  In his prime, he was the most intimidating fighter around.  I also have a dog name "Draxxin" like the drug from Phizer.  I called him that cause he cost me about the same as a bottle of Draxxin.  He also works like the antibiotic.  All the time.

I think my feelings will be hurt if you don't name one Shortdawg !!!! Just kidding ! I named one Red and he was my son's favorite steer ever ! Someone on here told me they thought Firestorm would be a good name for a bull. I name most of mine after there dams with their tattoo # following. I used spanish numbers spelled out for all of the bull calves I had out of bull I used to own. Uno, dos, tres , etc. You could even get up to your own Ocho Cinco.... LOL
